Essentials of Surgical Specialties (Essentials of Surgical Specialities (Lawrence))

Great Textbook (but it's still a textbook)
This was strongly encouraged reading for my surgery rotation as a MS3, but as most students know there aren't enough hours in a day to really dive into this book while on service. Of the nights I had time/motivation to read, I found myself choosing this book about 20% of the time. I used this book for two primary purposes. First was to get a more complete narrative view of some of the basic surgical concepts glossed over in NMS and Surgical Recall. Second was to get more information on specific surgical procedures the night before a case. My primary resources during this rotation were NMS and Surgical recall, both of which offered more practical (and pimp worthy) information. While Essentials was far too long to be read in its entirety, it was good for gaining broader-based understanding of important concepts, especially before big cases with nit-picky attendings. In the end, though, I could probably have done without this book, and doubt that time spent reading it contributed at all to my performance in the clerkship.

Fantastic Book
Awesome book that's great for medical students for a great overview of the different surgical specialities. Also includes chapters on anesthesiology. I used it many times throughout my clerkships just to brush up on the procedures and indications for specific surgeries for the different medical problems seen in pediatrics and internal medicine.

quick shipping, excellent service!
quick shipping, great condition, thanks! book itself is way too detailed for basic surgery rotation, in case that's why you're buying it.

Older edition but good!
Loving the read. Explains the anatomy and physiology very well before explaining the problems very well at an undergraduate level.
