Camping Cookbook: Dutch Oven Cast Iron Recipes (Camp Cooking)

The recipes in this book are great for teaching general dutch oven cooking techniques, and it can help to adapt other home recipes to camp cooking. However, the ingredients are not always what I would consider camp food. For example, frozen hash browns. Who takes those on a rustic camping trip? However, the ingredients adapt easily to things we do take on rustic camping trips, and I found this book helpful. My husband loves some of the recipes.One note. A lot of the recipes call for herbs and seasonings besides salt and pepper. If you don't want to carry other seasonings, this recipe book may not be the best for you. The seasonings are also pretty heavy. I usually cut them in half.

I was ordering something I needed for myself & I ran across this book for my husband. When I received it I gave it to him as a surprise. He absolutely loved it! He's loves to cook period but he & his son go camping & they don't rough it when it comes to food. He loves to cook with cast iron & he was so excited to see all the different ways & ideas to use his Dutch iron cast iron!! I also bought him a Lodge cast iron hibachi grill from Amazon last Christmas, I thought it would be great for him to take camping & he said NO! I'm not taking that camping! Someone might steal it or it might get broken!! 😂😂

The recipes look good, but the book is falling apart. About 1/3 of the pages are not glued in, not ideal for a book that will be taken into the woods camping with me. I'm going to have to rebind it.

I love cooking in my Dutch ovens and cooking outside over an open fire just adds to the flavor of your entire meal. You will be surprised at just what you can cook in your Dutch ovens and how great it will taste. Thank you and enjoy your meal and enjoy your day.

It's okay, but there really wasn't a recipe that I just wanted to go out and make. Recipes could be more detailed.

The recipes were simple, descriptive easy to prepare and very tasty. I use this cookbook for preparing menus, and camp cooking with a camp dutch oven.

I found it to have a few great ideas that will inspire more ideas as working with a Dutch oven outdoors becomes a little more familiar. This book covers all of the beginner info for cast iron use and care which is extremely important. I found the recipes to be a good sampling of concepts covering most items you would want to cook while camping.

I can't wait to go camping this week and try out some of these receipes. They will be used at home as well, but I am excited. There are a lot of good ones, some I will put my own twist on but most I will keep as they are.

A cooking book without any pictures is not a cooking book... you eat with your eyes first...

There are no photos of the meals in this recipe book. Just recipes in text form. It’s okay. Photos would have been helpful

Did a full Dutch Oven over coals camp, this book was extremely helpful!
