Bamboo Shoot Halves in Water, 565 g, White & Yellow

This is BIASED review, because I just love bamboo shoot. The quality and quantity of the product in these cans is top notch.

Soft pieces - bright yellow color. Fried them - was delicious. Price still on the higher side, compared to Rest of Asia. If delivery is made free (for orders above Rs 499) with the seller opting for Amazon's Fulfilled, could lead to more orders and more sales. Noticed that the can I received was from Aug 2016 batch, but with shelf life of 3 years, nothing to worry about.

Well, I didn't expect that it would taste so funky and smell so weird right out the box. Never thought canned shoots had this kind of taste. On online forums and message boards, people compare the smell to urine, and not just urine, but urine of old people (claimed by a caregiver who had tasted them), apparently canned ones have a really weird taste and smell. Even the brine liquid drained into the kitchen sink stank the area for many hours. Also found out that Japanese bamboo shoots (menma) have a much subtle and less acidic profile. But will I risk trying canned menma? Maybe in the distant future. Drained these bamboo shoots, washed them with fresh water, parboiled them once (they are already boiled and edible out of the box) for 3 min. Then chopped them up and mixed them with other ingredients, oyster sauce, cottage cheese, separately cooked stir fried chicken, bok choi, spring onion, and mixed them with egg noodles. At that point the bamboo shoots became somewhat manageable, maybe even an acquired taste LOL.

Quantity seems to be less comparing with the price, and a little sourness added in the the bamboo shoot would be perfect as there is no taste without sourness, the rest is ok.
