Just pop batteries in. There's a little screw and screwdriver to fasten the battery case down. Then it comes on when you press the button. Simple!

Just displaying Hi or lo not displaying temp?

It does display the temperature. However I returned the product - poor quality and it didn’t function properly. I would not recommend.

If you can't touch it how do you use it?

You have to hold it to take the temperature. The 'no touch' bit applies to the person whose temperature you are taking. You hold the thermometer 1-5cm from the forehead to taake the reading.

Can you use rechargeable batteries?

I would say no. I did try rechargeable batteries unsuccessfully.
