Just what it says it is. Added to transplanted trees, I can not say for sure it helps, but any biochar is supposed to absorb excess water/minerals/fertilizers.

Not really flakes, more like powder
Don't expect chunks and chips from this to use in mixing up your own houseplant potting mix. :-( It's merely a powdery flaky mess. I won't buy this again.
