Son needed this specific type of thread to piece together a tshirt. Nice and soft yarn for sure. Didn't hear any complaints from him about the yarn.

My daughter taught me how to do sashiko mending. I am perhaps not very good at it, but I am loving the versatility. It makes the mended area very strong and durable.

This is a thicker Sashiko thread. It is pure cotton. It works really nicely but if you undo your work a few times the tightly Bowen strands can sometimes separate. There are different weights of sashiko threads available for this embroidery and this is the thicker version so only one strand is needed for the embroidery. Be aware that this comes in a skein and has to be wound otherwise trying to pull it like your normal embroidery wreath thread will end up tangling the whole thing. A sashiko book I read suggests that you can just open up the skein and cut it open, where the skein is tied, and that will produce even lengths of thread to be used in the embroidery. A lot of people expressed frustration with the skein getting tangled if they simply try to pull the thread from the tip without unwinding and opening up the skein. Cutting it will solve that problem. I am used to winding skeins of yarn so I was able to unwind the skein and wrap the thread around 3 plastic embroidery thread holders. When I read about the technique of just cutting the thread through and creating long strands, I realized that would have been much easier since the skeins are wound to be cut at that perfect length for embroidery. I am going to do that with the next skein. This thread is more like the original sashiko thread, but some also use other no. 8 thread that comes in little balls that is meant for Crochet or tatting. Anything can be used, but I wanted to start with the cotton thread. Finding a good sashiko needle to use with the thread is key. It really depends on the fabric if you have a slightly thinner fabric, it is much more easy to pull through a needle with this thread than if you have a thicker denim or other canvas fabric. I have attached a picture of my first attempt at sashiko using this thread and a cotton canvas fabric.

I’m just starting getting into visible mending. These are great, on the thicker side which I was looking for, and are outlasting my pets chewing (I mend their bedding with it). Only thing I suggest is googling how to cut this thread type. I made a mess of one before watching videos on how to properly unwind and rewind thread like this. Rookie mistake :)

Very good. Just keeps getting tangled

The thread seems quite strong. I ordered the fine sashiko thread previously and this one is substantially thicker. The fine one worked well as long as I did not cut the lengths too long as it tended at times to fray towards the end of the length. Still it was good. I ordered this one to have more impact showing on the stitched work. I have used the threads mainly for visible mending and prefer it to embroidery floss. I sew a lot and this thread is a pleasure to work with as it really does not tangle and if that happens (rarely), it is easily untangled. Shipping was quick, as well.

As a beginner sashiko stitcher found them great to work with.
