An efficient and convenient mixer grinder finally!!
Here are the mixers and grinders I bought and the experiences I had with them, -Panasonic mixer from India (got it converted from 230V to 110V) - Cannot take more load. Takes around 2hr to make batter. Broke within 6 months. Converted mixer is a very bad choice. -Magic bullet - Good, but not for Indian kitchen. Need atleast 550 watt-power mixer with proper blades for Indian kitchen. -Ultra stone grinder - Excellent to make dosa and idli batter. It takes around 1hr to make batter. But its heavy, takes lot of space and hard to clean. Then, I started looking for a company-made 110V(not the converted), 550 watt-power or more mixer grinder which is easy to handle and clean as well. Well, finally I found Preethi Eco Twin Mixer Grinder. I got it from Great Elect. They delivered it within a week in a good shape. It has a warranty of one year. Parts and features are, - Basic unit has the motor. - There are two jars - 1.5 litre and 0.5 litre. Each jar has a flexi lid and dome lid. Flexi lids convert 1.5 litre jar into 1 litre jar and 0.5 jar into 0.3 litre. - 1.5 litre jar has three blades - Dry/Wet grinding blade, Mincer blade, Whipper blade. 0.5 litre jar has fixed multi purpose blade. - A stirrer - An overload protection switch beneath the basic unit, which is used to restart the mixer when it is overloaded and stops. I have been using this mixer from past 2 months on a daily basis. So far so good. Doesn't take much space on the counter and not that heavy too. Mixer is very efficient and powerful. I make batter in bigger jar with Dry/Wet grinding blade. It takes hardly 10 min. I usually put 2 cups of soaked rice at a time. Also, its very easy to clean. I use smaller jar to make chutneys, dry powders, chilli paste etc. Even a small quantity of ingrediants can be made into a paste/powder without water. I am happy with this buy. Also, I recommend it. UPDATE: Its been over a year with Preethi mixer and still fit and running good. I use mixer atleast twice a week to grind some kind batter or chutneys or dry powders. The mixer has never stopped due to overload and the maximum load I put is 3/4 th bigger jar. But some issues, - Its noisy (Noise has not increased though, just I am mentioning it now) - Flexi lids are dangerous when making puree. The liquid spurts out around the lid . Dome lids are better - There was rust formation near blade in smaller jar. It should be kept dry. The easy way to do it is, always keep jars inverted after wash. No need to tap dry also and this prevents it from rusting.

Works better than any other food processor I have...
...and believe me, I have a lot of appliances! I got this one as my mother was visiting and required a food processor that would perform as well as the Indian mixers she is used to back in Mumbai. She tried using my Ninja, Braun food processor and Magic Bullet and was never really satisfied. So we got this one! It is truly a remarkable little mixer. Doesn't take up too much space on the kitchen counter, has good suction cups at the bottom of the motor which fix it to the counter while you are using the mixer, grinds everything to the consistency we need and is easy to clean up. I don't put it in the dish washer as I don't want to take a chance with the rubber tubing around the lid. Also we pulse the food in the mixer before starting to grind it (just as the instructions say). So far both my mom and I love this one more than any other appliance in our home. We have made dosa batter, dosa podi, masala powders, chutneys and many many other recipes in this grinder. It is used daily in our home! I also purchased the square trade protection plan for this as I wanted to err on the side of caution after reading some of the bad reviews! But since I was purchasing it from Amazon, I wasn't as worried about the first 30 days of use. We really put the grinder to the test during those 30 days and it has always come out on top! Very happy with this purchase and I wish I had bought it before spending money on all those other appliances!!

It works fantastic. My idlis turned great and the chutney was ...
I just got this machine a few days back and I have used both the jars. It works fantastic. My idlis turned great and the chutney was good too. I am not sure about the complains from others but the four times I have used it seems fine to me. I got the package on time and the equipment is pretty nice. Looks sturdy so far. Update: I have been using the machine for some time now and it still works great. I noticed two issues though. 1. It is clumsy to clean. I have stuff that sticks to the inside of the gasket and I feel like i will damage it everytime i get it out to clean up. 2. The lid if not closed properly or if the machine is slightly overloaded, it splashes. I have had to clean my walls two three times while trying to do things in hurry. An update to include: At bottom of the machine there is a small red GFI like knob. Very cool. If you work the machine too hard, it stops working! Update: The white part in the bottom smoked and blew off. I was worried that my machine now is useless. Checked a little and lo, the replacement part was easy to order and the powerhorse is back to work. The lid is now not so tight and i need to hold it while blending to prevent stuff leaking but the machine works fine. I have a heavy use of the machine and I have no hesitation in recommending this one!

Bad mixer/grinder, poor quality parts
I purchased this mixer and grinder from Amazon. I did read the good reviews and decided to buy it. A couple of days ago, I tried to use the big jar and it would not work. I found out that the parts at the bottom of the jar is broken into pieces. I realized that it is made of plastic. The jar is made of steel and it is good. But, the most important part is made of plastic and it breaks easily. I am going to try to find the customer service no. I am disappointed by the quality of the product. [UPDATE - 2/23/2014] The coupling on the 0.5 lit chutney jar broke after the first use. I am not able to unscrew the coupling to change the poorly made plastic coupling on the jar. I tried the 1.5 lit steel jar out of frustration. The coupling on this jar broke as well on the first use. I ordered a new coupling from Amazon. I got the plastic coupling for $8.99. However, I am unable to change the coupling on jar because it will not unscrew. Overall, this product is a piece of crap!!!! I will NOT recommend this product. Thanks for nothing. PS: Amazon should stop selling this product because of poor quality, no customer service and no return policy without the original box.

Perfect for Indian cooking
I’m writing this review after a month of use, especially for Indian cooking. Warning: It’s a long review. I researched a lot before buying a mixer grinder and I concluded that Vitamix would be a good fit but I decided to not buy it just because it didn’t seem reasonable to splurge that much on a mixer. So I decided to go ahead with the next reasonable choice (based on thousands of reviews and videos) : Ninja. I was pretty excited for it and had soaked some urad dal in anticipation too. Believe me when I say that it did not go well. I ended up returning it after using it once. Reasons to return it: Plastic body (felt too weak and scratch prone) Height of the pot: it was too high and kept touching the cabinets above my platform while taking it out of the base. Poor performance: after spending over an hour grinding one cup of soaked dal, the result was disappointing. I finally went ahead and bought my third option of the lot: Preethi Eco twin jar. In my opinion the two jar option is quite self-sufficient and I didn’t have enough space to keep a third one :p. Reasons to buy Preethi eco twin jar mixer and grinder: Metal body: feels sturdy and is low maintenance compared to a plastic body Sharp blades: I have tried grinding almost everything in this (coconut, dals, frozen berries etc) and the end results were always ‘fine’. The extra lids provided are pretty useful when you want to convert the big jar into a medium. Instead of the original dome shaped lid, the spare lid goes into the body of the jar transforming it into a medium sized one. I had read a few reviews that it makes a lot of noise but which mixer doesn’t (I found the other brands louder than this one). Overall performance has been beyond my expectations. The only extra step I would suggest to prolong its life is to take the blade off after every use while cleaning it. The overall body is smooth and easy to clean without too many crevices or ridges. Would definitely recommend it!

Excellent
Excellent, lightweight, powerful and effective. Made Raagi batter from raw millet. Makes batter fast without much heat. I wish I had bought this earlier. I had bad experience with a different Preethi item few years back, so reluctantly bought this after trying Panosonic. I am happy with this product. I tried Panasonic mixer grinder made in India, with a converter to use in US, didn't like that much. I made sure to buy from seller "Amazon services".

Truly THE BEST out there - AFTER you figure out how to use it without killing it or yourself :-)
**New Review After three years of ownership: I had a terrible first impression of this machine and my first one died very quickly. It did the job so well that I ended up buying a second one and three years later the machine is doing very well and I am still very pleased. I used it several times a week and I have found endless uses for it. It is highly imperfect but it is still the best I have used and I have bought a dozen different processors/juicers/grinders and blenders. First the bad so that you are warned: -It is very loud. So I used to warn my toddler and I still warn everyone when I start that it is going to be loud. If not you can really scare the little ones and startle the older ones. -The parts that hook the top to the bottom "coupler" are very fragile. You have to make sure fit the top to the bottom correctly, and if you hear the motor struggling you should stop. After my first machine died this way, I had to buy twice in three years the replacement parts to replace the dead parts. I think also that the reason they make it cheap plastic is that they break rather than the motor dying. So it is like a cheap protection for the motor. You can find a couple of videos on Youtube that show you how to change them. -You cannot overfill the jars, or use something very liquid in the small jar. If you do the water sloshes out of the jar even if you try and press on it. The jar does nor seal fully. So do not use something very liquid in the small jar and do not fill it over 2/3 of the jar and better yet keep it at less than 1/2 full. -The rubber that seals the lid is a pain to take out. And you will have to take it out as the food gets under it. Use a knife with a sharp tip to do so. -The handle screws catch the food and get loose. So I use a fine knife blade to clear the food out and then tighten back. It is very awkward to do and will be to be done periodically to keep the handle from rattling and the food from coming out of the screw hole. -The small jar is small and cannot be filled as I said. So I break a big batch into several loads. -The big jar is relatively useless. Although recently I figured a use for it: Brazilian cheese bread dough. The dough is liquid enough that it works and actually works well. So why would anyone in their sane minds keep the machines? Well here are the good stuff: IT GRINDS ANYTHING and VERY WELL and better than machines priced 6 times more - even after buying two replacement couplers: I have made flour (from wheat, millet, buckwheat, ..) and when I sift it there is hardly any big bits and it become very fine. I have made dough/patties from soaked grains-the Indian way (soaked buckwheat, lentils, beans, rice..). You name it. Just soak your favorite grain. Here is one recipe: Strain liquid and grind into a fine or coarse paste/however you like it. Add enough liquid to give it the consistency you like and then leave in a warm place. Your dough will rise and you have a nice tortilla or bread dough. I have made fresh nut butter: peanuts, walnuts, sesame, sunflower seed). You might need to add a drop of oil at the beginning to help it. I made all kind of raw goodies (coconut chocolate balls - ground my own cocoa beans, dates balls, ..). Except for the really dry fruit like dates that will need to be soaked, you will get an amazing paste. It will even grind the very dates but it will sound like explosions rippling through the house and you will need to put all your weight on the lid to keep it from flying off. The hubby used it to make burgers and as long as he kept the quantity small, it ground meat cubes, onions and herbs into patties. It grind 3/4 ice with fruit into a smoothie- but I rarely use it that way. I remembered to update this review since I just bought extra attachments to it (a bigger small jar, a chutney jar and a juice extractor). Once I use them I will try and update with that information. ** Old review I had this mixer for 6 months and have loved it. It does what few others can do: efficiently grind spices, nuts - with a little liquid added; soaked grains. The blade sits very low so really gets at very little things. I even made tahini using sesame seeds! Beautiful! Yes? Well it is beautiful until you realize that the "grinder mixer motor coupler" or basically the part that helps the mixer latch to the motor is not just made of plastic but the worse quality. Probably the company did not spend more than 10 cents on the part! This part wears out with use and will likely wear out faster if you make a mistake and overload the machine. Of course you can replace it. In fact when I went to Ghandi Appliances - which sells part- the first image that popped was the "PREETHI MIXER GRINDER MOTOR COUPLER " at $8.99 and free shipping. So clearly it is a common problem. Several reviewers also complained directly or indirectly about the issue (basically if the motor is running and the blade is not turning - you likely have the same problem). Another flaw in design is the handles. They are attached with SCREWS! Well these often loosen up due to the shaking and then they are really hard to tighten. And of course if you are reading the reviews you know it is very loud but since all appliances are imperfect it was a flaw I could live with. I am just too busy however to deal with an appliance that is going to break down periodically. Sadly, considering a previous blender used to electrocute me, and another used to constantly leak because the base was impossible to tighten.. it is still better than most out there if you are willing to deal with replacing that 9 dollar part periodically. If you use the machine relatively little you may be fine.
