Always inspiring
I can never read one of Dr Tower's books without being touched and deeply inspired by his love for God.

Brings me closer to my Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ.
Tearfully inspiring. I have read this book in pondering chapters. Too much to read through rapidly. Pondering thoughts in order to absorb the truths. Love his works. I am a shut in and his explanations are a great comfort to me.

Delighting in God
A W Tozer was a tremendous preacher of his day and he was one of those preachers who spoke against the grain of his time. I grew up during the times of hellfire and brimstone preaching, including pulpit pounding, shouting, and the depiction of God as a judgmental being ready to strike down any who would oppose Him. Tozer, on the other hand, preaches a God who loves His children, who delights in them, who gave everything He had in order to have a relationship with them. James Snyder researched Tozer's sermons and articles to pull together this book to show us that we can have that loving relationship with God. Before I go too much farther, I want to say that this is not a mushy, lovey-dovey type book, but it is one that plumbs depths of God's being to find out what delights God and how we can find our delight in Him.One thing Tozer and Snyder make very clear is that if we can fully understand God, He's not God and he's too small to do us any good. His mystery should lead us to worship in the deepest way that we possibly can. It means that our prayers should be seeking His heart and His will in our lives. Having our prayers heard and answered depend on our obedience to God and our living our lives in the center of God's will.I have already recommended this book to several of my friends, bought copies for my husband and children, and I plan to take another read through this book and make some serious notes to enhance my Bible study times. I wish I could give it ten stars, but five seem to be the limit. My thanks to Bethany House for allowing me to read and review this book.

Relevant to today
My mother recommended this book, and I can see why. Tozer has a passion for reality and for pushing away the garbage found in the church of his time that still applies today. Near the end he mourns the lack of delight in our worship, in which we have to "whip it up" rather than enter in with it from the start. Our delight in God has been almost destroyed by modern legalism, such as the notion of "accountability" and "responsibilities" (both of which mean to me, "it's your fault you're in this mess") and "obedience" rather than grace and mercy! That's after a concert of deafening volume designed to provide an adrenaline rush, or a bunch of Charismatic chaos that goes against what Paul outlined in 1 Corinthians 14, all to stir up an emotional "high" that God is willing to provide without all that!Due to my own background, I found it hard to slog through Tozer's habit of using "Thee" and "Thou" when talking with God, and "you" when talking to the reader. His precious hymns were, for me, ruined by the same lack of delight that he faults "fundamentalism and evangelicalism" for in the opposite style. The big fact remains: we have a false god who gives no delight, while the true God, the Creator, Savior, and Counselor, waits for us with true delight!

Just read it
Tozer calls out the church! Existing and functioning at a level of mediocrity, the church today has lost its spiritual connection and fails in worship, fails in encouraging the development of deeper individual spiritual substance, and has traded its fundamental and profound mission to glorify Christ for popularity as an entertainment venue within the larger cultural context.

Ayden Tozer never dissapoints
I have 29 books by this terrific author. Different Christian authors seem to grab many of us in different ways. I have many books, but Tozer is and has been my favorite author for a very long time. So many lessons to be learned in each and every book he writes ( Most are from Sermons) he once preached. He passed away some years ago, but whoever is keeping his teaching around and alive is doing a great thing. This particular book focuses on our perception of God and we are not always focused on who he truly is. Mr. Tozer brings so much clarity to understanding Christian life and worship

Still holds true
Captivating and convicting work. His indictment of the church decades ago unfortunately still holds true today. An excellent perspective on what it means to delight in God. If we arenβt craving God and His word then our faith is stagnant.

If you are tired of a mediocre relationship with Almighty God, read this.
If you are tired of a mediocre relationship with Almighty God, read this. Knowing God for Who He really is, is to us Christ-followers like sun and water to flowers.

This book encourages me to review and re-examine my perception of God, and by doing so, I have learned a little more on how to serve and adore Him. God's perfection and His perfect love for humankind are fully expressed here.
