Not for everyone. For young people who live in warm climates with access to the ocean and outdoor space.
Definitely a book for those who live in warm climates. Not for those who live in cities, or for those who don't live by the ocean. It's for young people, just starting out, at least that's the feeling I got. Lots of outside ideas, not for those who live in apartments. Sun, palm trees and beautiful flowers that we NEVER see in Chicago...the sun, the trees, or the flowers. Not a book for everyone.

pretty pictures, but light on actual advice
Lots of pretty pictures, and might work well as a coffee table book. But the interior design "advice" is really only a collection of tips or thoughts, most of which anyone with any interest in interior design would have heard many times. Also, the tips read like they are half done. E.g. Grant notes that most living rooms have a TV, and you should incorporate it like any other object. This is a good advice, but then no further ideas are given (either via pictures or words) about different ways this could be done. A lot of work has gone into making beautiful pictures, so good as a "look book", if you like a relaxed/beachy design feel and want some visual ideas on that theme.

3.5* - Visually-pleasing interiors book peppered with handy decorating tips
If you're looking for a comprehensive manual on interior decorating, this isn't it. However, if you're looking for some interesting, lighthearted perspectives on what it means to make a living space your own, then this cheery book, filled with beautiful photographs might make for a quick and fun read.Alongside the vibrant photographs are quotes and tips on decorating such as, "Be your own stylist. Your style should be your own. Your house should be your home. An evolving home. A home is a work in progress: ever changing and evolving; growing with you and your style." Though hardly ground-breaking insights, I found these tips and quotes to be effective as gentle reminders that decorating my home shouldn't be focused on attaining that perfect decor, but rather on coming up with ideas that reflect who I am and to decorate using my heart, picking items, color palettes, etc. that my family and I enjoy. Cheerful and vivid, this made for a quick and fun read.

Cute to look through but that's about it
This was more of an introduction to the author's style and preferences than instruction on how to incorporate these elements into your home. It felt like an overbearing friend telling me how he or she does this and that thing with a tone implying that he or she obviously does everything right. Pleasant to page through but most of the styles are very (VERY) trendy rather than classic--or even trendy with a nod to classic(!).

Style over substance
A series of photos and illustrations, a bit like a catalogue but dreary and very little written detail. Expensive , definitely would not recommend.. Nothing inspiring in it.
