I see large circular holes in the plastic and small mesh plastic webbing. Is the small webbing removable and then the device still works?

The small webbing is removable but then kefir fermenter will be just glass jar with a piece of useless plastic inside...

Can i buy just the lid and basket for use with my own standard mouth mason jars? i only see the small basket/straw on microbiota's catalog.

It is difficult for me to answer whether there is an option to buy only the lid with the basket. I bought the jar, lid and basque 0.6 liter options, and I bought a 1 liter jar taking into account the size of the lid. Works perfectly.
