Perfect to bring faster storage for old laptops.
I recently picked up an early 2000s laptop. As you can imagine the storage was limited and slow so I was looking for a way to add an SSD to it and this adapter was the best option I could find and indeed worked even better than I expected! I just got a Mini PCI-E SSD, connected it to the adapter, replaced the HDD with the adapter and it even detects the SSD in the Bios with its full name! That was a pleasant surprise! I installed a new OS without any issue and now my retro laptop is a lot faster than before!

Adapter works great in G3 iBook
The disassembly of the iBook is a bit of a task, but I eventually got there. Because of spacing issues and the dimensions of the enclosure, I decided to opt out and install the adapter with mSATA drive without the enclosure. I think I could have made it work with a dremel tool or some additional adapters, but for my needs I'm not worried about leaving it sit inside the case loose.

Adds faster SSD drive to an 20+ year old IDE laptop
Works with a LITE-ON 128 GB SSD model# LMT-128M3M salvaged from another laptop. Much faster than a standard old IDE drive. Works fine in an old Dell Latitude CPx from 1999 now running Linux and should work in any computer that takes the old IDE laptop hard drives.

mixed feelings.. works and doesnt
I bought two of these (sleds) and bought two m.sata drives.. one sled works with the m.2 and the other does not. I will call the sled1 and sled2 meaning... sled1 allowed me to put into a old nx9100 laptop and boot off the m.2 the other sled2 will not boot. same exact image but fails to boot.. move the none boot m.2 to the other sled that does boot, Sled1 and that will boot fine then.. but move the booting m.2 from sled1 over to sled2 and now it does not boot.. My friend in ny bought the same exact setup and has the same exact laptop.. his does not boot either.. bios sees it but you just cannot get to boot.. i got lucky with only one of them booting i guess.. so will be looking for a different model.. get what you pay for i guess.

Perfectly operational, but some slight issues
I bought this unit to replace a faulty MSATA to PATA adapter that I'd purchased some time ago, the one that looks like it was thrown together in a day. I needed it to add an SSD to a ThinkPad x41, which requires a 3.3v drive, and adapters that support that were limited to the aforementioned adapter until this unit came around, so naturally I snapped one up.When it arrived, I was quick to install it into my x41 after flipping the switch to 3.3v (the 5v option will be useful if I ever need to reuse this), only to find out that with the casing installed, it wouldn't fit. Upon further examination, I found that the standoffs for the screws were just a little too short, causing the IDE pins to be out of alignment when the adapter had the casing on it. Installing it bare resolved this issue, and the unit works fine aside from this, but it's not ideal seeing as how I can't install it into the laptop's drive caddy. Again, other than that, the unit works fantastically. The speeds are excellent compared to the 4200 RPM 1.8 inch drive that the laptop came with, and it's a nicely put together unit.

Tiny little screws but does the job
The shell is held on by some super tiny screws, so you are not going to want to take this apart often, but once together it's rugged and worked immediately when plugged into my dos gaming laptop.

Runs quite hot
I bought this adapter so I could stick a more modern drive into an iBook G4 I had lying around. After installing it, I noticed that the laptop's battery started draining quicker and the adapter was running quite hot. I expected quite the opposite result when going with flash storage so this was disappointing, to say the least.I'm quite disappointed by the speeds too, and although there's not much to be expected from the speed of an IDE bus, this adapter definitely doesn't saturate the bus and leaves a bit to be desired. For anyone that is looking for a better alternative to one of these adapters, there's an IDE SSD that's in the works by DosLab electronics that I'd advice checking out! Haven't tried it myself, but it's piqued my interest since this adapter didn't end up working out for me.
