Review: 4/5yo adores this scripturally accurate book! - Bought this last Christmas for my then 4yo son. We usually do a seasonal-ish theme for a book rotation with his books every couple of months, but he loved this one so much it stayed out even throughout the rest of the year. He’s now 5yo as we approach our first anniversary of having this book and he loves this now more than ever. He will get it, sit and flip through it all on his own (he does this with several books but this is a frequent choice). I love how this book displays scripturally accurate illustrations! So many kids’ books+Bibles use inaccurate illustrations and it’s a pet peeve of mine, but this book shows angels without wings and portrayed as mostly light, and it also shows the wise men coming later—not at the nativity with Jesus as an infant, but to their home with him as a toddler—so I especially appreciate these accurate depictions. For us personally, when we started reading this, it was a little tricky at first cause we honestly hadn't talked about kings much so the idea of what a king was may have still been out of his understanding just a bit but not so much that he couldn’t grasp it as we talked about it at other times and discussed it as we read and related it to other leaders. We have multiple books from this “series” such as The Garden, The Curtain , & The Cross and their book on prayer (prayer: anytime, any place, anywhere maybe is the title?); the former has also been a huge hit with our son, though the latter wasn’t his favorite he still enjoys it and occasionally requests it, but this book (of the 3) has definitely been his top pick! I also love how they have the board book for younger kids/toddlers and the wordier paperback versions for older kids. We definitely are in the paperback category for our boy but we also have both versions of the garden, curtain, & cross and it was good for a shorter read or when needing less words and more to the point. Not sure how this board book version compares, but we have seen this be a very positive plus with these books to have both versions and have gifted many board books versions to family or babies at church. Can’t wait to get him another of these books this Christmas to keep adding to his collection that fuels knowledge of and interest and love for our Lord!

Best Kids Christmas Book Ever!!!
This is my favorite Christmas book to read to kiddos! Good theology, tying the Old Testament in with the New and the story of Jesus. The pictures are cute and probably mostly accurate. I particularly love that Jesus is a toddler when the wise men arrive! I’ve bought this as gifts multiple times and will continue to!! Could not recommend more!

It's a wonderful children's "Christ"mas book!
This book was a wonderful story! I read it to a group of 3yr in my preschool Sunday class. It was fun to read and kept the kiddos attention and engaged. The pictures were well done and visually appealing. The story line was just right for my age group and older. This one is a keeper and will be used for years to come. I highly recommend this book. I'm going to have to check out other books from this author.

Biblical and perfect for young kids!
We LOVE this book! It's a wonderful, young-kid-appropriate summary of Jesus' birth and is accurate to the accounts found in the gospels (down to Jesus being a toddler by the time the wise men arrived.). My boys are 3 and 17 months, and this year we did our first "Advent" thing in December where each day we would open a drawer, get a chocolate and read something related to Christmas (80% of the time it turned out to be this book, by choice of my 3 year old! Also check out the Gospel Story Bible by Jared Kennedy—we used that for the Genesis backstory about why we need a rescuing King in the first place. Wonderful first Bible for toddlers!). We found this book to be both Biblical and simple enough for our kids to understand. It excitedly describes the coming of Jesus as our new king, our rescuing king and our forever king, greater than all other kings of this world. At the end, while it doesn't go into detail with words about the adult life of Jesus, it does have a grid of images that the parent can use to walk their child through Jesus' life, death and resurrection, according to what's appropriate for the kid's age. The last page shows Jesus working as a carpenter, preaching to a crowd, dying on the cross (<-- wasn't sure how our 3-yo would take that, but it went really well) and victorious in risen glory. That approach worked well for us this year and led to many precious, open-ended toddler discussions. Thank you, thank you, thank you for this book!

Cute but pretty simple.
It's a cute book, and I feel happy to have a board book for discussing the Christmas story with our toddler, but I wish there was just a little more detail given in the story, it's more simplified than I was hoping for. I'd say this book is easily for 2 year olds, though it can be used as a conversation tool for older toddlers.

Best Christmas gift for Preschoolers
After purchasing several Christmas books to preview as Christmas gifts for the Preschoolers that attended our church ministry, I feel that this book is the best choice. It covers all the points of the Christmas story that we teach. It's cute, colorful and sturdy. You will love it.
