RV Bumper Adapter – Clamp-On 2” Hitch Receiver for Travel Trailers and 5th Wheels

Product was great, but as with others, our bumper wasn't up to the added weight. We have a 2007 Springdale 299, manufactured by Keystone. We researched Keystone's website and found a reference to using a bike rack on the back bumper, so we thought we were good to go. On our return trip from the Oregon Coast we were about 50 miles into the loaded trip when we heard rhythmic scratch sounds. My wife looked back and shouted that we were sparking! Sure enough, the bumper "tore apart" at the welds and our bike rack which we had inserted into the bumper adapter was scraping the pavement. Luckily we were still in the "wet" forests of western Oregon and nothing bad happened. Our load when the bumper broke was a Tow Tuff cargo carrier with two adult bikes and two kids bikes. Our bumper, which wasn't strong enough, was factory made, 4" square and 1/4" or 3/16" thick metal. You would need a heavier duty bumper to use this product.

This works great for the intended purpose we used it to hook on a bike rack for 4 bikes. The adapter worked perfectly but the bike rack failed! We just about lost our bikes on the freeway in Oklahoma when the bike rack bend badly when going over bad roads (yes that you have to PAY FOR to drive on in Oklahoma) Our bikes were badly damaged to the point that one (costing over $500) was not usable. We are leary to put bikes back on the back of the RV but it was the bike rack not the adapter that failed.Just make sure and pay the extra $ for a good bike rack and don't buy the cheap ones. This adapter is very strong heavy metal and holds completely secure. We have driven 1000's of miles and it is still as solid as can be. Maybe we will use it to hold our clothesline now instead of bikes. Anyone know of a GOOD bike rack to buy???

Attached this to the bumper of our self refurbished 89 coleman popup bumper. The bolts themselves I wish were threaded with an extra 1/2 inch of thread (rear bumper of camper is on the short side of the 4" vertical), but was able to use a 1/2 metal 'shim' and it tightened perfectly. Front to back, our bumper actually has a thin sheet metal knockout at the lower part of the bumper, but a slight modification (two holes to accommodate the bolts) in that thin piece of metal, it attaches perfectly. Other small snag is that the bumper on our camper is snug up against the plastic back panel of the camper. This was also not a problem as the plastic was flexible and my wife & I were able to push the flexible plastic back enough to put a 1x2 on either side of the work area, allowing room to install the bolts. This thing is a solid (read sturdy) piece of metal with strong bolts and strong metal lower plate. We purchased a four bike bike rack and it inserts and secures rock solid! Love it for the price!.One minor negative (minor at least to me).. The hole for the trailer hitch pin was too small to accommodate both of the hitch pins that I own.. both of which fit fine in the Curt hitch I had on my CRV and fine with the hitch that comes with my Tacoma.. I own a dremel that has a grinding bit.. A few seconds shaving (and I mean very little) the interior of the hole and pin was snug and secure. If the hole was perfectly sized to the standard pin size, I'd have given a 5 star..As it stands I would HIGHLY recommend this for anyone who needs to add a basic (minor load) hitch to the back of their camper to haul their bikes, so long as you have a little bit of handy in your blood to make minor tweaks. ;-)

This installed easily on my Camper's bumper and holds our 3 bike rack nicely. I bought this unit because it has a bolt that tightens against whatever it is you are hitching and helps to keep it from jarring around in the receiver. That is important to help keep the twisting and bouncing motion of whatever you are carrying from turning in a leaver that could end up giving you a bad day. It's done a great job so far.Be sure your RV Bumper is in good physical shape and that it is designed to carry weight. Many are not.

I bought this to mount on the rear bumper of a camper in order to mount a cargo carrier. The mount is well made, very heavy materials and the brackets and mounting hardware that came with it are a perfect match. This mount also has an additional cinch bolt to stop the carrier from excessive movement. For the purpose it is exactly what I needed. One note of caution - if you are mounting this on an RV bumper make sure the bumper is heavy steel and continuous weld type. Even a few bikes on a bike rack can put a lot of strain on the rear bumper going down the road, bumps, etc. If in doubt, check with an RV dealer. For my purpose on an older camper with a heavy steel rear bumper this is the perfect match.

We just completed a 400-mile trip with the Swagman bike rack mount on our trailer bumper, carrying two bicycles. The mount performed flawlessly, and I had no worries about it not being capable of supporting the loaded rack. The unit is heavy, welded steel which, with the torque the rack imposes on the receiver, is essential. That torque is also why the RV bumper must be continuously welded. The front to back space between the bolts is about 3/8" more than our bumper width. I'm going to keep an eye on the snugness to see if a shim may be necessary. One thing I would do differently would be to mount the unit so the receiver is under the bumper, instead of on top. That would lower the rack 4" and make it a bit easer to mount the bikes.
