Use these in my TrueNAS media server disk array. They are a great value, reliable, and perform well for my use case. I recommend these drives to anyone looking for this size/format.

This 7200 rpm drive is just the right size for my home backup server. I have found the HGST Ultrastar drives to be very durable and reliable.

Been using it heavily for a month, it still works great, the loud sounds it makes (compared to my other hard drive) was concerning at first but I think it might just be characteristic of this drive. One thing, this drive will work itself to death if you use it as virtual memory for a huge process, it's strange, it seems like Microsoft doesn't know about this drive or something, it also saw it as having less space than it actually had to utilize as virtual memory. I'd recommend setting this drive to no page file

My HGST Ultrastar 7K6000 HUS726060ALE610 was 37 C when I did long writes from college. It idles around 32 C and has more than enough storage for important backups. Upon post you may hear audible noises during start up which is normal. I suggest to make sure you mount the drive carefully with rubber grommets in place to absorb the vibrations because the platter runs quick when writing data. SMART data has shown no bad sectors. This is not the must ideal gaming drive, but it can be a game archive drive to offload data from an SSD.

This is my second drive from them and the first I didn’t bother filing the warranty because I figured it was a fluke and figured I would give it another go. Not even 6 months later, the second drive is giving bad sectors error and won’t workin my NAS. So once again I am at the mercy of my parity drive. This time however, I decided to reach out to WD suppprt since that is the reseller for these HGST drives. The support rep on chat was nice and helpful and so I figured this was good to go. Tonight, I get an email from WD support saying that based on the serial number I provided, the build date and purchase date have too large of gap and I needs to provide further proof from Amazon that I purchased it. Seriously, it’s not my fault that there is a large gap and the information I provided as proof of purchase should have been more than sufficient. So here I am waiting for a response and hopefully a new drive to replace this one as my parity drive is acting in place of my bad drive leaving my array unprotected so they can give me the run around. Sorry not playing that game and writing this review so don’t have to go through this either. Hope this helps someone.

Super cheap and I've yet to have one die on me yet, despite me running them 24/7 in a NAS. I've had the 4TB and 6TB versions, and they've both worked perfectly. The price is definitely right. I'm replacing WD Red's on the 4TB and Seagate Ironwolfs for the 6Tb as they've been failing after about 4 years of use. Both those still cost more than double what these do. I've been running these for about a year and a half and I've been pleased.There's a reason it's called RAID. Just make sure you run at least a ZFS RaidZ2 or RAID6 and you'll be fine. Remember RAID is not backup!

Compared to my 6TB WL drives, this one runs hotter, at least when cloning from another drive. I used Macrium Reflect to clone and maybe the long process (~7 hours) caused it to overheat. Now that is running on NAS, the temperature dropped quite a bit and is closer to what my other drives are. High operating temperatures generally reduce the lifetime of electromechanical equipment and this one may be no exception. So, I don't really know how much it will last if it consistently runs at higher temperatures. I will try and deal with the overheating issue by providing adequate ventilation and maybe using a cooling fan since the drive is exposed. On the bright side, I bought it for half the price of a typical 6TB NAS drive, and I have it paired in a RAID 0 configuration, so only time will tell if it was a great purchase. I must say though, in terms of speed, this one blows away anything else I used before except SSDs
