Finally!
With 2 young children who are gluten free, I have missed serving them a lot "fun" childhood foods. I am so glad to have found this company! The animal pasta is so cute and tastes just like the other lentil pastas we buy (pasta-like texture, nutty flavor, goes well with all kinds of sauces). This instantly made it's way into our pantry staples.

Not as soft as their macaroni
I love this brand but this was more dense and not as soft as the lentil macaroni which we love

Hearty, suitable alternative to regular pasta
I am always nervous trying new things like this because my kids can be picky at times. They love pasta, it's one of their go to meals, but I wasn't sure how they would feel about chickpea pasta. It was a hit or miss with my three kids. (one loved it, one liked it, one hated it)I feel good about serving this to my family due to the limited ingredients and nutritional value. It's a hearty, wholesome meal packed full of protein and fiber. One serving of this chickpea pasta had me feeling quite full as it is very filling. I have had wheat pasta before and hated it so I have been hesitant to try other "alternative" pastas. This is much better!!The alphabet shapes are fun for all ages. They absolutely appeal to children but my husband and I got a kick out of them, too. It was fun for everyone to see if they got enough letters to spell out any words. The fun shapes made it easy to eat the pasta so if you have little ones, they should be able to manage this by themselves without creating a huge mess like with traditional spaghetti!!!I cooked the pasta for around 12-15 minutes. The end result was a bit al dente due to the texture of the chickpeas. It wasn't mushy or gummy like traditional pasta can be. I was worried that my kids wouldn't like the texture since it is a bit firmer than what they are used to. They really didn't mind the texture.I tried the pasta with both traditional red sauce and then again with a garlic butter sauce. It was MUCH better with the red sauce. I think the strong flavors in the sauce really balance out the strong flavor of the chickpeas. When preparing the pasta with garlic butter, my kids really noticed the chickpea flavor and didn't care for it. My youngest son (4) wouldn't eat it at all. When preparing it with red sauce and meatballs, my family really enjoyed it! I would definitely take into consideration that there is a chickpea flavor when deciding how you want to prepare it.If you like the taste of chickpeas and have kids that like trying new things, I would give it a try!
