I want it to be a little tight not too tight would sizing down be a bad idea?

I can't say if this is 80s enough for you, but I love this romper and is festive to wear. I even gave 2 of them as gifts to close friends. I'm 5'3" 150 lbs and fits fine, and expect it would be equally fine for taller and thinner folks.
