Are you a complete beginner at running who wants to finally learn how to do it? Did you skive PE whenever it was time for cross country? Do you find that you get out of breath really quickly whenever you’ve tried to run in the past? Deciding to learn how to run takes guts, as you embark on a journey that you are confident will involve a large degree of discomfort. You may have tried and failed in the past to make running stick, but never the less you are determined to master it. You may tell yourself that “running is hard”, or “I’m just not a runner”, but the truth is that anybody can learn to run if they have the right approach. There is more to learning how to run than just going out and seeing how far you can go three days a week. Some people will undoubtedly have success with this method, but for most beginner runners this is approach is the reason they failed in the past. It usually takes a little more guidance and support to truly master the art of running. More and more beginners are deciding to take their first steps to learn how to run. Beginner-friendly races are popping up all over the place and it remains one of the most accessible sports around. The book explains the importance of the Golden Key, which many runners have found to transform their view of running, and ability to keep going for longer and longer. You’ll learn about what you need to do before you even think about going for your first run. The kit you need and what you can get away with not having for the time being. You’ll discover the best way to warm up and cool down, how to avoid injuries and how to deal with niggles if they do strike. How to breathe, how to avoid getting a stitch, your running technique, stretches, when it’s the right time to think about running faster or even entering a race, and how to stay motivated. I cover nutrition for runners, which is especially important if you’re trying to lose weight. My ‘power foods’ you should always have in your cupboards and the linked resources such as recipes are particularly useful. Beginner’s Luck will change your view of running from a dreaded chore to excited anticipation. “George Anderson what have you done? I'm really excited about going out for a run tomorrow morning - couldn't get out today so am itching to get out tomorrow and finish Cougar 3. Saturday mornings are for lazing about - not running ; )” - Lisa Learning how to run should be a fun and rewarding experience in itself, not just a means to achieve a goal. Beginner’s Luck is a complete program that teaches you everything you need to build your confidence as a runner. The book itself contains all the information you need to get running, but you will also have access to a incredible range of powerful resources. You can join hundreds of other beginner runners in the private coaching forum on Facebook, where you’ll find support and be able to ask me questions personally. There are several links within the book and in the resources section at the back to the companion website www.beginnersluckbook.com. Here you will find video demonstrations of stretches and exercises, breathing techniques, motivational interviews and warm up drills, as well as a downloadable copy of the program you can print out and tick off the runs as you complete them. The program itself removes the pressure of having to stick rigidly to a set rate of progress, and instead allows you to progress at your own pace. So whether you can commit to 1, 2 or 3 runs a week you can still go out and make consistent progress through the program. If you are a beginner runner who would like to learn how to run for up to an hour AND surprise yourself as to how easy it really is, get Beginner’s Luck and start out on your journey today. Review: Motivational 0-60 mins for 0-60 yr olds - I'm a middle aged woman who has attempted to get fit, unsuccessfully ,over the last few years, until now .I read this book first and couldn't put it down .It inspired me to root out an old pair of trainers and hit my local laneways .I have reread the book several times and it is inspiring me to continue on my successful journey to running 60 mins .It is well written ,easy to understand and peppered with practical advice on equipment , diet ,motivation, how to deal with weather ,indoor and outdoor running etc -basically all questions are answered in this book . The "cat named" week concept is what won me over -I set my own personal goals and progress at my own pace so no room for failure. I keep my book on my laptop and have a quick browse before planning my next days run .Am so thrilled to have found this book and would shout about it on the rooftops. Love the support group that is associated with the book. Review: Very Useful Book For Beginning Runners, Recommended - I'm an avid bicyclist, but not a young one, at age 62. One day a few weeks ago, the rear wheel on my bike cracked. While waiting for a new rim to be found, I decided to give running a try. I put on my Salomon hiking boots and managed to run 0.21 of a mile. I did another short run, this time of 0.52 mile. Then a third of about the same distance. Then my bike was ready to use. I picked it up and rode it home, and was amazed to find it was easier for me to do a mild (not very steep) hill climb. I decided to get more serious about running. I looked on desertcart and found this book. It took a few days for the book to reach me, and by then, I had started to use the "Couch to 5K" app on my iPhone. I read this book from cover to cover, and like it a lot. The font is a nice size and easy for me to read. It is basically telling me I can run a total of 60 minutes non-stop, with training, and by running slowly. That was very encouraging for me. The chapters are organized in a logical progression that make sense to me as a "newbie" to running. The book answers many of my questions. I've come to running with some physical conditioning already, from my bicycling. The first week's program from this book seems pretty easy. I can see for myself how the program progresses so that I will be gradually doing more running, and I like seeing the entire program so that I can form an opinion of it. (Mostly I ask myself, "How am I going to set up an interval timer iPhone app for each session?" The advice on the needed kit is well taken. I now have basic running shoes (called "trainers" in the book), and I guess I'm satisfied to run in an L. L. Bean swimming trunk and an old tee shirt. There isn't a need for anything fancy at this stage. That works well for me. The author writes with a very, very positive and encouraging tone, and this helps me a great deal and makes me want to do the program. The book is easy to consult quickly: it is right here on my desk and I frequently go through it as I want to refresh myself on some point. What I would like to see more of in this book: An index. Have you ever tried searching for that page that gives the URL of the author's Facebook support group? I couldn't find it. An index at the back of the book would be helpful. Advice for beginning runners who are coming to the sport partially conditioned. For example my bicycling is pretty regular and I do anything from 15 to 70 mile rides each week, all of them foot powered. I don't own an electric bike. So I have some conditioning already that I can take advantage of. How to deal with automobile traffic on streets. Overall, I highly recommend this book to beginning runners. It does present a very good structured program that can be followed for the new runner. If one has the inclination, after finishing this program, one can go on and try some of Mr. Anderson's more advanced programs. This is the foundational program. This is where we start. I'm glad I bought the book.

Great Beginner's Guide!
This book takes all the mystery and 'elitism' out of running! Anyone can do it! Plus, he has a great website and a Facebook page for followers to get advice and support from one another! I'm already on my "Wildcat" week! I even recommended this book to my running club so we can prepare for our first 5K in December! Plus, George writes in a way that is casual and easy to read.

Exactly what I wanted being s newbie...
I love that he is real..he covers everything in short, to the point sections that cover everything you need to get out and run. I LOVE that it is done at your own pace and you move on when you have accomplished the day or week you are on.. I am currently on week 1 (10 week program, again , at your own pace so could take longer) This book is for AnYONE who is run curious, or thinks they cannot due to size or age, and totally for someone who ran but been a while, this will get you back in. I look fiward to this journey and so happy I read this first..perfect foundation

This book inspired me to begin running again!!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and George Anderson's simple philosophy of running at any speed and not feeling inferior about it was enough of a freeing thought to get me back out on the road to health. If you need some encouragement and inspiration to actually do something constructive and positive for your health as regards running/jogging/walking, then I HIGHLY recommend this book and the contacts that you can have with the author via email to further inspire you to get out and move! It was one of the best decisions I've ever made to purchase this book and begin a correspondence with the author. It made the difference for me between not running and running three times a week! UPDATE: I've now been running 3 times a week, 5 miles at a clip without stopping. I've lost 22 lbs by running and watching what I eat, and George Anderson's book was the impetus to get me going. But in addition to that, his encouraging emails and other online support have been extremely motivating and encouraging, and the author has also responded to my emails personally several times. This was a life-changing book for me, convincing me to get out and move regardless of the speed, and it's been a great 5 months so far.

Fantastic guide to running! Practical, informative and motivating!
Great book for anyone wanting to learn how to run but didn't know where or how to start! Practical information and very easy to read! George's brilliant programme and this book is the reason I'm running up to 20km a week and I was starting from nothing just 10 weeks ago! Amazing! If doing something like this is your resolution for the New Year then buy this book and see how easy it is to get out there running!!

Read carefully, it's all in here....
I'm in my 40s. I had been a wogger (walk/jog)for a few years before I really aimed for running. The support the author offers on Facebook was very encouraging. For me it wasn't enough. I felt my running form was horrible. I spent many weeks suffering through. I finally hired a trainer. I started seeing success. But, being a do-it-yourselfer for many other ventures, I was curious what I misunderstood or didn't read carefully. I reread the book. I suggest you read and reread this book before getting started. Honestly, while my trainer has a somewhat different approach, she pretty much had me doing everything in George Anderson's book. A trainer was the right move for me, because I needed greater accountability. If you are self motivated I encourage you to read this book. My warning is don't just jump to the plan. All the things in between are not to be taken lightly..foam rolling, rest, hip extensions, post workout stretches... It's all in here. I can now roar like a lion (I can now run for an hour without stopping 🦁.)

How to start running and how to keep running
This is the best book for helping you to get that foot out the door and taking your first steps to becoming a runner and a runner who enjoys opening the door to going for a run. With just three runs a week the program is manageable for even the busiest of people and before long you find yourself turning the pages and wanting more and more. The program is easy to follow and I'm loving the feline names for each week as opposed to counting down your weeks, mentally it's just brilliant. You will just have to read the book to get this:). Highly recommended from a puma:)

The programme itself works but the way George explained how to motivate yourself was the truly amazing bit of advise
I bought this book in March 2015. I couldn't run for more than a minute at a time. Following George's programme, I realised that I was able to build it up, at a much faster pace than I thought. The programme itself works but the way George explained how to motivate yourself was the truly amazing bit of advise. I was skeptical but I followed his instruction to write down with a pen and paper why I wanted to do it. I broke it down, and it boiled down to I just wanted to experience what runner's high was all about, experience why people get hooked at running. Until then, every time I run I had stitches in my sides. I thought I couldn't run. But I was wrong. I did get the exhilaration and the sheer sense of achievement got me itching to go out again. Also the Facebook support group is great. You will soon start to recognise names of co-runners who started around the same time, and you root for them and they will root for you. I twisted my ankle in May and had to rest it for six weeks but I got so much support I didn't fizzle out like I feared I would. I ran my first 5k last weekend (july 12) and I feel great. The group is always buzzing with the achievements of others who have recently completed other milestones. I look forward to updating them with my next milestone too! For those of you still wondering whether to try, just do it, you will surprise yourself. You won't regret it.

It works
A brilliant little start to run program & no extended fluff here from the umpteen 'experiences' from similar books from the USA. A few very simple & highly common sense rules here to get you off the couch & out into the fresh air. The suggested apps & reading list are also very good & Gymboss is a very nice (free) app which will compliment you jogs to follow the plan easily with your smartphone. Personally I would also recommend the free app, Runtastic, to help you monitor your runs.
