I like to take this to and from work I need to know if traveling really keeps the puzzle intact when this is fold it up?

my experience is that it keeps the puzzle itself intact, but the sorted pieces you have do tend to 'fall' to one end when carrying it . it's not been a deal breaker for me at least, but i just try to carry and move it a little more carefully to minimize the shifting of the loose pieces.

Is the main board frim enough to work on a bed?

Purchased this puzzle board for my mother because it is portable and sturdy. Board doesn’t bend but folds up nicely without disturbing what you have worked.

Does this have a middle piece that lifts up and out to put the puzzle together on? Or do you have to use the entire board with wings attached?

You have to use the whole board. We found the pieces are difficult to move around and if you use the wings to spread pieces there isn't a way to close it. We fixed this using a piece of butcher paper on each. Then you can slide the pieces on the flaps to the middle and close it up.
