Safari Ltd. Mythical Realms Collection - Scylla Figure - Non-Toxic and BPA Free - Ages 3 and Up

This is an incredible figure. I never expected Safari to make a figure of Scylla, who seems fairly obscure, but they did so, and did so with their brilliant attention to detail. The first point of interest for me is the dogs' heads surrounding her waist, they are excellently sculpted and present a menacing, but not unduly frightening, aspect to counterbalance her gentle human face and posture. The coiled tentacles that make up the lower body make a fine, stable base for the figure and are strongly detailed with creases and suction cups. The color blue would seem an odd choice with the rest of the figure, but it actually works quite well. The upper body the torso, arms and head are those of an alluring woman, beckoning some unfortunate to their doom. Everything, despite her hybrid nature, pulls together well to create one of mythology's most fascinating monsters.This is a finely sculpted, detailed work of art as well as an educational tool for teaching children Greco-Roman mythology. It's a fine collector's piece for those interested in mythology or monsters. I consider it one of the best pieces in my collection, and recommend it to others who are interested in such things.

Wonderful. Now I want a Charybdis. Oh, and both Zeus and Pallas Athena -- separately, although Athena emerging from Zeus's literally splitting headache would be cool.
