TOM Aqua Lifter Dosing Pump is designed to pump water up to 30 inches high and at a flow rate of 3-1/2 gallons per hour. Ideal as a dosing pump for reef additives, drip system for reptile terrariums, circulating pump for water falls, and overflow siphons. Accepts standard air line tubing. I don't know of a better pump for this purpose.
Toms Aqua Lifter pumps have been around for a long time because they works flawlessly. These pumps are great for moving small amounts of water from one place to the next even over long distances. I think everyone who has either a Reef Tank or a professional grade fresh water tank should have one of these in your drawer. They are great for acclimating new fish and corals to your tanks water and also have a myriad of uses during an emergency. I once used one to push water through a 25ft coiled up 1/4" RoDi line put in my freezer so that I could keep a 5 gallon bucket with all my fish and coral in it cool while we fixed an issue with the tanks chiller.

Effective reliable pumps with caveats
In my opinion, these are great little pumps. I have three of them, two of which are in service as part of ATO systems. The pumps have proven to be reliable performers. When used in conjunction with aqua controllers, it should be noted that the low current draw may result in unreliable performance of transistor level relays in the controller. This can be resolved by using electromagnetic relays or by adding an additional appliance such as a light to the pump circuit whenever transistors are used. Failure to do so can result in the pump continuing to run causing flooding. This is not a design issue with the pump.

super quiet for a water pump
Sure quiet when pump water. I used this as a filter pump to pump water thru a nano DIY filter for my fish bowl on my office desk. I can hear it in a quiet room when test it in home basement. But in office cube, I cant hear anything from it even sit next to it. Sometime if air got sucked in and stuck inside the pump, it is gets louder. In this case I shake and rotate it a little bit, then it goes back quiet. It gets way to loud if pump air, though.

A very quiet pump for air or water
I use one pump for air supply to my marine tank, I chose this pump because I could specifically draw air from any location I wished like an outside line. however 3.5 gph of water is likely at optimal and ideal conditions. I used this pump in conjunction with a hydor ATO and was a bit disappointed with the drip flow, is it 3.5gph? I dont know and will likely never find out as I use the pump exclusively for air now. Nice soft rubber feet and youll never hear it running.

Love this pump
Love this pump. Second one in four maybe six years lol. Beat the heck outa the first and was dumbfounded when it broke finally after all the abuse! I see other reviews about this being not a longevity based product... You are wrong! This price, this pump, around five years and multiple moves.. Being tossed into buckets and in and out of water (oops)! I for one feel like I got more than my money's worth!!

Versatile little pump - but not a silent variety
This little pump will pump fluids or air. The two uses I have found for it are restarting a siphon using 1 1/2" diameter pipe and pumping air through a restrictive air stone (the two air pumps I had were not powerful enough). I bought a second one because neither of the applications I use it for require a quiet pump. The one pumping air through the large restrictive air stone is in the basement and the siphon only needs priming when the power goes out and water drains down to the refugium from the display tank upstairs so it is very infrequent and not for long time periods.

Best little transfer pumps.
These are the best little top off pumps made, for the price! Use them for what they are, a low flow, low head, transfer pump. I use them for automatic top off, replenishing evaporated water with fresh water to maintain constant salinity, and water levels in my reef tanks. They are extremely durable, as several of these pumps are used with a kalkwasser mix, witch many people may warn you against, but have worked for me for years, and years. I have extra Aqua Lifter Pumps, and rebuild kits on hand just in case one goes out, but they just keep going, and going. These are not precision pumps, as the flow rate will be affected by the volume of the supply source ( as water level goes down, so can the flow rate due to head pressure). I recommend using them with some kind of controller, or ato float system. I highly recommend these pumps, and wouldn't hesitate to buy them again if one ever goes out.

Pump used for DIY Solution
I'm pleased with this purchased. I've been looking at this water lifter pump for quite a while. First it was for an auto top off system that I decided not to build, then I finally discovered this would be the perfect solution to keep the air bubbles out of my U pipes that transfer water from my tank to my sump. I drilled 1 small hole in each U pipe to fit an air hose fitting. Then attached air hoses to all 3 with an air hose distribution connector and then attach this to where you would normally put the air pump. By doing this I keep my U pipes free of air build up. Very pleased.

American voltage!
I bought this from the UK (at a higher price than the US) on the basis it would be 240 volts ac.It is not, it is 110V and therefore a transformer is required. It does the job but I am disappointed the specifications are absent from the description

Needed a more reliable product
The pump did its job to prevent an overflow. Mine lasted about a year before it burned out and, for the price, I expected more.It is a surprise that a product intended to protect the system fails relatively quickly. I only discovered the failure by accident. When I came back to look for a replacement, the price had doubled which adds to the frustration.

Every saltwater tank owner should have one
This is a great product. We use it to prevent air locking in our Saltwater overflow 'U'-tube. We insert the suction end of the air tubing as high as possible in the 'U'-tube and the discharge into the filter in the sump. Downfall is that the tubing occasionally plugs up with the algae and salt deposits, then restricts the flow of the pump, but with the monthly maintenance of removing the debris this product is awesome. No more air locks and aquarium no longer overflows when running the dehumidifier. We have purchase another for doing water top-ups, but haven't set it up yet.

Perfect for ATO
I use this as an ATO pump (Hydor smart level) and after a few months it's working fantastic. Only suggestion I have is to use hard plastic food grade tube instead of airline tube. Same size as airline but it does not compress under suction. It's the same stuff that comes with RODI units. This dubled the pumps output.

Amazon is a 10 as usual. In my application ...
Amazon is a 10 as usual. In my application this pump is used with an overflow. There is a lot of air in my overflow and sometimes I need to manually prime. I dont think this pump likes air. That scares me if I ever go away. Other than that it does what it's job.
