Yes, it is loud, but no louder than my wood router.
First thing I did was measure the runout. I put the motor in a vise and placed a dial indicator on the side of the collet holder (without the collet cap). Rotating by hand, the total runout is .001". This is very good. The collet holder is glued onto the motor shaft. I suspect this is because they tweak the thing until it's true. I'll bet this is why they give you a holder with the motor. You are purchasing a system. I would recommend that you never remove the holder because it'll never go back on straight.Went to install it on my cheapo 3018 and it wouldn't fit. There is a metal band on the motor, presumably so it will fit larger machines. The band simply snaps off, which allowed the motor to fit into the Z-axis bracket just fine. The diameter of the motor, without the band, is 1.65"I read all the reviews about ramping up the motor, but just for fun, I simply turned it on at full speed with the Candle interface. The motor came on without any issues. However, just for good measure, I will put the ramp-up code into the header section of the gcode generator so it's always there for all NC program files. The motor is very loud, but not because it's unbalanced or out of round. It runs at 20K RPM, so I would expect it to be loud. It isn't any louder than my Craftsman wood router.I was hesitant to purchase this motor, but since Amazon has a decent return policy, I decided to risk it. So far, I'm pleased.

Great spindle upgrade!
The media could not be loaded. I've had my 3018 for a few years now and have used it a ton. I finally pulled the trigger and upgraded to the 20K spindle.Motor came 100% ready to go.Installed it and immediately wrote basic program in pic I added. Had to adjust some parameters and it worked flawless and smooth right away.Did 3 paw programs to test it out.SUPER HAPPY and can't wait to push the limits!Yes it is a bit louder than the slower stock motor but it's also spinning 2x's faster!

Great performance as long as you get one that is balanced
Spindle gives excellent performance compared to the stock 10k. Has alot more power and the extra rpm allows you to run higher feeds and speeds. Alot less likely to chatter with the small bits hogging out materials. My first test was on 1/2" birch plywood running 20k rpm 30in/min feed 9in/min plunge and 0.028" depth per pass and it flew through like a hot knife through butter. That being said this is my second spindle the first one was so out of balance it was super loud and shook the machine like crazy compared to the stock spindle which was nearly silent. I put in for an exchange and the second spindle I received runs perfect just like the 10k but much better performance. Don't settle for one that is loud and shakes they aren't supposed to.

Great upgrade
This was a great upgrade to my 3018 pro. I upgraded the y axis and this spindle together and now I have a machine I can actually use to do bigger projects. It is considerably louder than the old one but no more than I expected, after all it is twice the RPM. First carve with it was 4 hours and it preformed fantastic. Much cleaner results. There is a slight vibration at around 14,000 to 15,000 rpm but nothing terrible. I will just avoid running it at those speeds. For the price it out preformed my expectations.

Motor died upon first use: UPDATE
Genmistu 20K spindle is trash! It ran for 2 hours and died. Yes, I purchased the upgraded power supply before you ask. Yes I was using the upgraded power supply. STAY AWAY from this product, unless you like making returns to Amazon. This has completely changed my opinion of Genmistu, I was getting comfortable with their products and was considering a larger machine, guess I'll find another brand and start the whole process over again. One star - it died after a roughing pass, so the job is half done. Now I have to perform a spindle replacement in the middle of a job, put the old spindle back in the machine. I have to adjust speeds and feeds half way through this job. What a waste of time, think there will be response from Genmistu? I'll update if there is. Until then, 1 star, I'd give them less if I could.UPDATE: Genmistu sent a new spindle motor right away! The customer service on Amazon is very responsive and I was pleasantly surprised. I have since purchased another CNC from their Amazon store, it is supposed to arrive Friday. I'm overall pleased with the performance of this smaller one that I have currently. Now that I find their customer service to be responsive, I have no reservations about future purchases with them. I have since purchased a 300 watt motor and power supply, and I am completely satisfied with that order. (I even ran a 9 hour job with it, no problems). I will retract my initial opinion of them based on their response to my issue.

Yes, it is worth the money
This is a good upgrade for a 3018 CNC router

ABSOLUTE JUNK, replaced three times. Finally gave up!
I wanted to upgrade my spindle from the stock spindle so I could meet manufacturer-suggested speeds for my bits. Most manufacturers recommend between 12k and 18k spindle speed to keep up chip load, so I decided to give this a try. What a mistake!!! First of all this thing is EXTREMELY loud and gets worse when the brushes are disintegrating. I had three projects completely ruined from the brushes basically exploding. Yes, I can sand out the dust, but re-centering the work position is next to impossible. I will say that SainSmart support was very responsive and eager to help remedy the issue, but after replacing this thing three times I was done and upgraded to the 300w kit (Which is quieter and works 300 times better). Save yourself the frustration and just go to the 300w watt kit, this thing is horrible. I know reviews are subjective and I try to see the good side of products, but there is not a positive note to this product. Buyer beware!!!
