Hopkins Towing Solutions Endurance 48190 Quick Fix Vehicle Side 4-Flat Connector

I bought this replacement plug after the single male connector on my Toyota truck plug broke off in the U-Haul connector on my trailer. Wire connection to this plug is supposed to be accomplished by pushing wires that have not been stripped down into vee-shaped slots in four flat metal prongs, and screwing down a clamping plate on top of them. The slots in the prongs are supposed to cut through the insulation and make contact with the wires. None of the prongs cut through the insulation on the wires from the truck's harness, and I had to manually cut the rest of the way through the insulation with a utility knife. This left the little remnant of insulation on the ends of the wires hanging on by a thread, and means that those little pieces of insulation could strip completely off and let the wires slip out of the vees if pulled on hard enough. To counter that I spread clear silicone across the wires at the exit point in hopes that would help hold the wires securely. Also, the hex nuts on the back of the connector are supposed to be held in place by hex shaped pockets in the plastic, but very little torque on the screws that hold the clamping plate on will strip out the hex pocket and let the nuts turn. I'd give the connector 1 star, but I do like the four little red LED lights on the connector that show you that you have connectivity.

I had accidentally damaged my hitch wiring and found this replacement part on Amazon. It seemed too easy, but it really was no problem to install and get working. I had to take it off the first time because I did not check to be sure I had cut away enough of the old, frayed wiring. Once I did, it was easy to attach and worked well.

Liked the LEDs. They are a nice touch, though not critical.Didn't like the mechanism to splice the wires from the vehicle into the connector. It holds the wires loosely, which is a pain when installing (you get two or three in position, try for the next, but one of the previously installed wires pops out...do that a dozen times and see how annoyed YOU get). More importantly, I expected that the wires would become much more secure when I screwed on the top. Maybe, but only marginally. The wires pull out of the connector WAY to easily for my comfort. I ended up putting silicone on the back to give me a little more confidence that the wires would stay in place.Also wasn't ecstatic about the mounting holes to connect the connector to the vehicle. I had to drill a new hole in my vehicle structure because this connector's hole pattern was different from my old one. Would have been nice if this came with a very basic adapter.Bottom-line: it's OK, but has some issues. I gave it two stars, but if I had the option I'd give it two and a half. I'll probably shop around if I ever need a new one, rather than simply get this again. Wouldn't recommend, though wouldn't say "avoid at all cost" either.

I don't know why they have stretch and sheerness on the review questions for this plug but I do like it. Now I did go ahead and not only push the wire into the prongs but a also soldered them in for extra reassurance that I would not ever have a short in the wiring.

I bought this to replace my old one. Super easy to install. I stripped back part of the coating on the wires to get a better connection to the terminal forks then I crimped the forks together. Added a lot of dielectric grease and closed it up. Like says, super easy and well made.

I tried for an hour to get this to work. The tabs that are supposed to piece the wire casing would not. I tried to make a small slit in wire casing, and that wouldn't work. I had to go buy a plug and splice it on and bingo trailer lights.

I bought this so I could just use the wire setup I had and worked really well. I really like the indicator lights. Made it easier to setup by myself. What I didn't like about it is the rubber it's made out of is really soft, and is getting harder now that it's been in the weather. Not sure if will last very long but so far so good.

Only issue is as others have stated, getting wire to make a connection can be a little challenge. I used 16 gauge wire and has to slightly bend in the clamping 'V'. Easiest to place wire over the 'V' and push wire into it to make connection using a flat screwdriver. Once in it is secure and works well

Plastic is rather soft and deforms when both half are bolted.You have to cut or strip wire insulation to get a contact. The pins will not cut the insulation.Diode are nice to see if there is a good contact.OK design but might not be very durable or seal from water/snow/salt.

Très facile a installer et va très bien.doit pas dénudé le fil au complet mais seulement faire une entaille où les fils font le contact pour que ça tienne bien,sinon ça va lâcher avec le temps.des led permettre de savoir si les contacts sont correctes.trrs bon produit de remplacement.

Easy to install in minutes with simple tools. At under $20 for the unit is a lot cheaper than the mechanic charger $145 for similar service.Looks durable, will know more after it has been in use for a longer period of time. Thinking of ordering a second one to keep in the side pocket of the SUV "just in case..."

The instructions only said to insert the wires in the V shape connector but I had to squeeze the connectors so that it really touches the metal of the wires.

The old connector had rotted off. Replacement was a bit fiddly trying to get good connections in the terminals but it worked. The LEDs are super helpful.
