I ordered my mattress on the 31st of November.  It never arrived.  The order was resubmitted.   It still hasn't arrived by the new promised date.

Actually let me answer this.   This mattress is in fact excellent for that purpose.   The warranty on this mattress is one year and I expect with active activity one year would be perfect.   Some mattresses are going with a '10 year warranty' in the same price range with this firm mattress, however this mattress is warrantied for the college experience.

Is this mattress single sided or double sided?

I checked mine and it actually has 6 sides and you can sleep on either of the two largest sides.  If it only had 2 sides it would be like a sheet of paper having no dimensional depth whatsoever and also be an invisible thread when rolled up as delivered; if you somehow managed to find and unroll it your discomfort would only begin.   Actually, you could give such a 2 sided mattress a 180 degree twist and attach the ends together so then it would be a Mobius mattress with only 1 side, but even more uncomfortable due to the bodily contortions required with resulting sleep positions.

Has anybody used this in a children's trundle?

I have it in a floor-level trundle as part of a bunk bed (a third mattress in addition to the two bunk mattresses), and it's perfect. The bunk design specs vary from model to model, so check for the thickness maximum in your design.  Our bunk bed model is Atlantic Furniture Columbia. We used the same mattress for all three beds.
