mCover Hard Shell Case for 2020 13.4" Dell XPS 13 9300 (non-2in1) Models (**Not for 2 in 1 Model**) (Aqua)

I recently bought a brand new XPS9310 and having spent what i had on it was lookign for a way to protect it as best as possible, found these covers after a quick internet search and liked the look of them however was concerned by the other reviews saying the case did not fit their laptop. however it fits my Dell XPS 9310 absolutely perfectly, exactly as described. the hinges are completely unimpeded and the laptop is totally protected, it looks smart too! and the kick legs on the bottom to raise the keyboard angle are an added bonus for comfortable working.

Protect my laptop from many hits

Having read previous reviews, it was evident that there is an inherent design flaw in the design. Two protrusions at the rear of the bottom panel prevent the laptop screen from tilting back more than 90 degrees. This was easily remedied by using a fine hacksaw to remove them (it takes care but can be done in about ten minutes - do not saw fast. Slow and easy does it). The bottom panel remains held firmly in place due to several other connecting points. With the user modification, the hard shell case works well and only now serves its purpose. If it was not for the design failure and the need for user customisation, this would be a 5/5 rating, but with the design failure, it can only garner a 3/5 rating.

The Dell XPS-13 has a delicate finish for a device that is going to be carried around by many of its users. Even simple actions like carrying the laptop in a hand with a ring on a finger is at risk of scratching it. I bought the mCover mainly to protect the laptop but it also allows the machine to be elevated at the back. There are many similarities between this cover and the popular similar covers for the MacBook Air. The cover is made of polycarbonate which is relatively hard and probably would crack if dropped. My black cover is slightly transparent so the logo can just be seen through it. The fit of the cover is good. It does not compromise the workings of the laptop and does not restrict opening. It is probably not as tight a fit as the one on my wife’s MacBook and can pull away a little if the lid of the laptop is lifted by a single point at the middle which is easily rectified by lifting it with a hand at each side. When I first fitted the cover I was annoyed by the way the machine rocked during typing if used flat without the rear feet being extended. I think this has something to do with the weight of the screen and discovered an easy solution was to remove the four rubber feet. This makes the machine much more stable. I am happy not having rubber feet but I imagine lower profile feet would also stop the problem. I would happily give five stars for this cover but have removed one star because of the need to modify it to stop it rocking and the price, which I think is high for what it is (although note different prices for different colours).

I was a bit concerned about the other reviews but I ordered this and it fits my 2020 XPS 9310 perfectly. The hinge opens as normal (unimpeded) so no need to break out any cutting implements. I do object to paying £25 for 50p’s worth of plastic, but sadly there’s not much competition so the prices stay high. At least it’ll provide some impact protection for day to day use.

Decent product for a reasonable price fits well but could be a little tighter, once clipped on.
