Learning Curve, But Then Pretty Fun!
I bought this on sale because given some of the reviews, I would have been hesitant to pay full price for it. Most of the reviews complaining about how complex it seems when learning are pretty true, but given a little time investment, it's not that challenging to pick up. The instructions can seem vague, so we found it better to watch someone else play a round on Youtube. After that, we were able to quickly pick it up and play it, only referencing the instructions a couple times when questions popped up.The quality of the game pieces are pretty good. Initially setup does take awhile, because there a lot of cardboard pieces that need to be popped out, but subsequent setups don't take that long. I liked the shiny laminate cardboard and how sturdy the game pieces feel as well as the gameboard. Everything packs away rather nicely in the box when you're done. The first time we played there was only two of us, and we didn't realize we were supposed to be flooding two sections of the ship after every turn because of this, so the game took about 2.5 hours and we both got to the lifeboat and the ship had not sunk. LOL! So just keep in mind that there are different rules depending on how many people are playing.I think the value for the money was really good and I would recommend to anyone that likes board games that require a little bit of time to learn. It's been pretty fun after we learned how to play!

Game lasted about the length of the movie!
Set up and reading the instructions for the first time playing took about the length of time it said a game would take (about 40 mins), and for a 2 player game, it took us almost as long as it would to watch the movie (almost 3 hours) haha! That was a surprise, and we definitely wouldn't be able to play it very often because of that. Overall though, the quality and design of the game was great for the price, and the strategy and mechanics of the game were really good. We didn't use the dry erase marker on the board, but rather cut out small pieces of paper to cover up the used items instead. One thing I was really disappointed about was that we ordered this game twice, and both times received a damaged game. It seemed to be due to shipping from being poorly packaged. The first game was severely damaged, and then we had to wait a while until it was back in stock to reorder and naturally, then the price was higher (but still reasonable). So when it arrived slightly damaged the second time, we decided to keep it anyway.

Extensive set up, but very fun!
This game does have a lot of pieces to initially pop out of the cardboard inserts and a lot of pieces to set up around the board/table.The first time you play you’ll need to walk through the instructions step-by-step because a lot happens in a turn. But once you get the hang of it it goes well. The one thing the instructions didn’t explicitly explain, but seems to make sense when you play - when you use and “activate” and slide the ice cube over to “used” - after your turn you reset them. Which the instructions do not say, but without resetting it seems like you can’t really play the game. But otherwise the instructions were fine and the game moves smoothly when followed.I got this a a funny gift for Valentine’s Day for my sister and didn’t really expect much from it, as it gets mixed reviews, but we had a blast and really enjoyed it!

Took awhile to set up
It took a long time to set up the first time we played. Lots of individual pieces and it was a little confusing at first. We didn't even get to finish the first game, but it seemed like it would be fun once we figured it out.

Great Titanic movie game
What took them so long? Nice well made game that was fun to play and didn't take too long. Nice that it has pictures from the 1997 film. I also can't believe the price! It was so cheap and the quality of the board and playing pieces so good that I cannot believe the manufacturers are making money on it. A steal at the price I paid.

Seems to be intended for a narrow audience
I have to question who the audience is for this game.As you can no doubt see, a lot of people are saying the rules for this game are super complicated. Well, for serious gamers, they're not. If you've mostly played Monopoly, Scrabble etc. then okay, they're going to be super complicated for you. But the board gaming hobby has exploded over the last decade or so with Settlers of Catan leading the charge. But in any case, given the complexity of the rules this isn't for your typical mass market gamer. But it's also not for super serious gamers either. There's a huge first player advantage, there are imbalanced end game objectives, and a multitude of other issues. There's also a super huge theme disconnect - why is Cal a good guy in this game? The truth is that a huge chunk of the issues would have been solved if they'd gone with just the Titanic theme but with no connection to the movie. But alas, the movie connection sells games to the mass market . . .Which brings me back to who is the audience? I know I'm not it. I liked the movie Titanic well enough, but I'm not a fan. I like the Titanic theme. But I'm also a serious gamer and there are issues in this game that ruin the experience for me.So I'm guessing this is intended for serious family gamers who have already played games like Catan, but haven't moved much beyond that level of play and are attracted to the movie theme. I know a few people who fit that category. Maybe there are lots of people like that.I'm a hesitant about knowing how many stars to give this game. It's not for me, but there are people who like this game and lots more who might like it if they tried it. But just keep in mind - if you haven't played any moderately serious games (e.g. Catan) then this one is going to overwhelm you. And if you're a serious gamer, know going in what you're getting. If you loved the movie maybe none of this will matter. But I suspect many serious gamers aren't going to like Titanic. Your mileage may vary.
