It symbolizes that the boss as a helmsman leads the crew conquer the waves.

Q: Is there a typo? Looks like it’s missing a space between “boss” and “mentor” toward the bottom???

It doesn't have a space but it has a comma in between those words. This is the best gift that I can find for my boss, and my boss loved it.

Q: Does the box actually say "Best wishes"?

It does. There’s also a little card inside (about the size of an index card) that says “Best Wishes” on it as well. I think it’s supposed to be a gift card, but the “best wishes” seems rather ... awkward.
