'La Mela Rosa' (Pink apple) is a traditional variety of apple grown across all of the mountain foothills of central Italy. The most widespread and traditional habitat is located in the foothills of Mont Sibillini. This apple has an high resistance to diseases and insects, due to this particular location, to the local environment and climate as well as the genetic characteristics. The peculiar climatic conditions of this area, primarily the daily and seasonal ranges of temperature, impact positively on the organic characteristics of the fruit, making it unique and totally different to the fruit grown on the lower plains. This is the only "Pink Apple" jam protected by Slow Food Presidium.Le Spiazzette Jam is made using the pink apples from their orchards and is sweetened with a low percentage of sugar. Enjoy at breakfast on toast or in yogurt, for pies, or pair with cheese and meats.Le Spiazzette is a place where time has stood still. It is an old farm owned by the Gravucci family from the start of 1900. Massimo Gravucci recently decided to produce jams using traditional recipes of the family. Here you will rediscover the traditional tastes and flavors of the fruits that may have been forgotten. 'La Mela Rosa' ( Pink Apple ) dei Monti Sibillini, the 'Cilegia Corniola' ( Cornelian Cherry ) and the 'Prugnolo Selvatico' ( Wild blackthorn or Sloe ) are again being enjoyed by the jams and compotes that Le Spazzette makes. They collect by hand the fruits from the trees and bushes that grow around their orchards. This ethical choice is more time consuming and difficult, but the result is well worth it! The name 'Le Spiazzette' derives from the famous legend telling of the Sibille fairies who came down from the mountains to dance with the local youth. Together they danced in the fields and with their dancing they created 'gli spiazzi' - piccola piazza - ( small squares ).
