Air America and the H34
I very much enjoyed reading about the Air America war that I wanted no part of. I was busy flying UH 1s for the Army in Viet Nam about the same time. I saw many air america helicopters and fixed wing aircraft in VN and heard they were paid much more then I was .Good story.

CASI Maintenance Man
So nice to read about flying operation without pilots being the star. I worked in Laos from 69 to 74 lived in VTE most of the time but spent few months at LP and 6 month in LS20A living there not RONs. Met Vera ( Champ ) in Bangkok in 2000 really a great guy . He was suffering with emphysema during the time I had the privilege to know him. He never complained and was happy until the end. He had some great stories of old Bangkok .I went on a few recoveries of our Porter and remember the H34 coming to pick up our disassembled airplanes nice to have you guys help us out. A good read I will recommend it to my friends . Thanks Phil

Great book about Air America and its operations in Laos
I highly recommend this book to all. The author knows from personal experience about what he has chosen to write about in this fine book. They took casualties, some of them were certifiably insane, but, they had a tough job to do and they did it. This was a secret war and it took its toll on man and machine. The best part of this book are the personal stories from the men, who were essentially crew chiefs, and their experiences. You never get over the fact that people are trying to shoot you down and I, for one, can not thank them enough for their bravery. God Bless them all.

I enjoyed the view of this flight mechanics
Having been there in the early 1960's as part of a secret operation at Long Tieng, I enjoyed the view of this flight mechanics. However, most of the flight mechanics I knew there were Filipinos and Thais. Pretty good perspective from the author.

The Rest of the Story
A well written group of individual experiences of Americans, and other nationalities, employed by Air America in Laos and SEA. Another group of under appreciated volunteers oft times in harm's way. I had no idea of the depth and flexibility of Air America operation. We, as a Country, should be grateful and proud of all those who served, but hold the political string pullers to higher standard in committing our son's, daughter's and resources to conflicts with no end game. A very good interesting read.

Great stories from Air America in Laos.
An interesting book on the secret war in Laos, and Air America. The various stories are short, and are from the perspective of a flight mechanic rather than a pilot as most of the books are written. I think the writing could use some editing, but overall it is acceptable. I especially liked the description of the shoot down of the AN-2 Colt by an Air America Huey near Phu Pha Ti, LS-85. This is mentioned in other books, but this is the best description I have read.

Excellent
Very interesting read, well written and composed.Opens up some of the mystique surrounding the air America operation in Laos.Boy wasn’t the author correct about the allied withdrawal from Afghanistan when he wrote this in 2913…….
