Does this signal finder work for Viasat satellite testing ?

I used it for a satellite testing

Can this be used to aim a standard tv antenna? how would i power it?

didn't work for me. but i live out in the country so that might be why; not enough signal strehngth.

What is the dB dial for? Is it complicated to use?

dB stands for decibel; a measure of power (compared to a reference). It is essentially a volume control to adjust the needle on the meter. Without a dB dial, the meter could be pinned to the right (too much signal) or to the left (not enough signal). Once the needle is centered, it is easy to point the antenna to find the best direction.

So, from what bob in ny is saying is that this will work to adjust direction of rooftop over the air antennas? right?

Yes its post to do that but honest I only got it to work once and then the rest of the time it does nothing I don’t know if I bought a defective one

Junk,

I'm a satellite engineer. I bought this thinking it might be a decent quick and dirty tool to align DBS dishes (eg directTV). This was completely useless.. The needle bounces around aimlessly regardless of if signal is received or not. I've used signal finders that work, this doesn't You are better off just using your sat receiver signal strength page... This thing was inexpensive but still don't waste your money.

My dish get blasted by wind off the lake and sometimes needs to be tweeked back in to alignment. This meter works awesome for peaking the alignment perfectly.
