SYRYN has a customer for life if they keep this up!
I have been a regular lap swimmer for over 15 years (also a former US Navy service member). At a minimum I am in the pool twice a week for 35 laps or more. Prior to purchasing the SYRYN, I had a first generation NuDolphin (purchased around 2005) that up and died on me a month and some ago, so I am no stranger to waterproof mp3 and what to expect from them. SYRYN and Swimbuds have both far exceeded my expectations. The sound quality is as optimal as I could hope, and is hugely exceptional for the cost. The instruction booklet was very clear and concise and easy to follow. I use Amazon Music as my go-to after ditching iTunes some years ago (very long story), and every song I have ever purchased through Amazon was very easy to transfer over to my Music folder on my computer (download the desktop Amazon Music app to make it super easy), then it was just drag and drop into the folder for the SYRYN. The device itself is even lighter than my NuDolphin was, and I like that the clip is wide, long, but lies very close to the device. I hook-slide it onto my swim cap and it doesn't budge! The ear buds are phenomenal. They keep all the water out of my ears and keep the sound quality clear and true through flip turns and depths up to 10ft (that's as deep as our pool is). As to the other reviews, I'm not sure why they've had such a hard time with the functions, especially since it's spelled out so easily in the booklet (like, 5th grader would say "duh"). To shuffle songs, simply press and hold the forward and reverse buttons simultaneously until the light indicator switches from red to purple/blue back to red again. To turn off shuffle, repeat. Volume: Press and hold the up/down button (co-located with the reverse/forward buttons... up and reverse, down and forward... up and down are in relation to the audio jack placement) until you achieve the desired sound level. Play/pause: self explanatory Turn on/off: press and hold the play/pause button until the indicator light turns on or off. Seriously, you cannot beat this player for the simplicity, functionality, quality of sound, craftsmanship, etc. I'm definitely glad I went with this player instead of the Diver or the costlier options. Plus, the company who stocks this is a home-run, family-run business. And no, I got absolutely nothing in return for this review.

Game Changer / Magical
Update: Im still using my origional '22 purchase Syryn with origional provided headphones. I use it weekly and take care of it. Ive always dried it after use and kept it in a vented case during travel. Its still working flawlessly. Only challenge is finding new free mp3 music! Past review: I don't usually write product reviews. I purchased my Syren back in June of '22, and said this morning to myself: "I must write a product review." After competitive swimming from 3rd grade, until college years and now lap swimming for life and fitness... at 46Y/O, I wish I purchased these in my 30's! I have swam with ear plugs because my bicept flop in my stroke entry is so loud that I learned silence made lap swimming enjoyable again. It was always the clock on the wall and my mind and thoughts pushing me. 8x100s on 1:40 Then my ex girlfriend came up...Whoa, who's that in the far lane, shes beautiful...oh crap was that my 4th or 5th 100? I'm cheap with electronics. I spend my money elsewhere on items that last. I wait...for the 3rd or 4th generation when I feel I really want a device for my enjoyment. Plus I want a GPS for hunting. And my tri bike needs that new... I wait for prices to come down. I read reviews... I ask others. Should I go with bone conducting, this brand or that... Will it be obsolete? Will I spend more on buying music? I will always regret not getting these sooner! They're truly a game changer. The music is so clear and the quality is so good that it's like there are speakers are under water. I swim with a smile again. I'm whooped in a set and AC/DC hits with Back in Black and I power through into my 2nd wind like I'm back in high-school keeping the pace and not backing down when the set starts to hurt. What? Where's the coach on the deck???? It's just me, the clock, my mind creating the work out, and all my favorite tunes now while I'm swimming. FINALLY! I'm always saying FINALLY a company got it right. Through the flip turns to not needing a swim cap. Keep in mind I had the clear plastic fanny pack that a walkman would be placed inside and the opening would screw down shut to keep the water out. It sucked. And after 3 months of the ear bud cords ripping out in a flip turn that was too snappy or a leak..."copper strands...well there goes the ear bud cord...it's shot." If you like to lap swim. Love to lap swim with the Syren! The sky is the limit on what you're listening to. And it's plug and play drag and drop simple. At least I'm saying this in my 40s and not in my 60s. Who cares what the life guards are listening to now! I'm kicking butt to GNR and Metallica, with some NWA,GreenDay, Flogging Molly,Tchaikovsky,Bagpipes, VanHalen, Johnny Cash, Waylon, and Ice Cube. Tupac, AC/DC, SirMixALot, DefLeopard, Ozzy, Pantera, WhiteSnake, Queensryche, Bob Marley, DMB, MotleyCrue, the list goes on...but I'm swimming to it finally, and forgetting I'm swimming!!!!

Work quite well.
I have been using these for about a month and I am pretty happy with the device. I discovered waterproof swimming devices back when iPods were popular and I cannot swim my hour workout without them. This device has worked well. However, I do find that getting the headphones to stay securely in my ears for my entire swim is something I am yet to master. Each swim is different. Sometimes they stay in and provide consistent sound for the entire hour. Sometimes, one will pop out (not often though). Sometimes, they stay in but water gets in and I can only hear music that sounds really far away in one earpiece. The gel provided with the device does work to keep them in place but I admit, I forget to use it most of the time. Too much to remember before I jump in the pool so the gel is a bridge too far for me. One important note, I tried to swim without tucking the earphone wires under my swim cap and it was a total pain. The earphones just kept slipping out. So, now I tuck it and they do stay more often than if I do not. In the era of streaming music, I was confused as to how I would get music on this device. I was happy to find that there are online, free sites that will convert videos to mp3. The process takes only a second and the conversion is done. So, my "songs" are 1/5 hours or longer :) I do like the simplicity of this device. Pause, play, forward, back, volume, shuffle. That it and there is no learning curve. Shuffle is turned on by tapping the play/pause button twice. The light will flash to indicate shuffle is one.

Updated and Downgraded
I have borrowed a friend's swimming mp3 player in the past, and hated it. The music always sounded distorted and tinny. This device has similar issues, but the quality is actually soooo much better than what I had borrowed. These are actually pretty nice. I had read some previous reviews about how the shuffle feature may repeat songs quickly in the rotation. I have found this to be the case at times. In fact, of the 80 songs I loaded onto the player, some do play more prominently than others. I chalk this up to the algorithm being truly randomized, and not having much in the way of modifications for eliminating songs that have been previously played. Either way, it doesn't kill me to hear the same song twice in a workout. I hand picked songs I like to hear, and I hear them. The battery life has been good as well. The first time I used them, the battery only lasted 2 days (about 1.5 hours of use), and I was annoyed, but since then, it has consistently lasted all week, and I only need to recharge the unit once a week.. *************UPDATE************** Not two months after I wrote this review, the product just quit. It had been working fine. Maybe I would have an occasional issue with the earplug coming loose and needing to be reinserted, but no biggie. Then, this week, I charged it up on Sunday night like I usually do. I follow the instructions on the cord and don't charge it for any more than 3 hours. It's dry like it says as well because I haven't used it since Friday. I take it out Monday morning, and it works as usual. Tuesday morning, I put it in place and start to swim. It's probably 5 minutes into my swim, and the music just stops. I finish the lap I was on, and push the button to start. The music starts, and half way through my next length, it is off again. Maybe it accidentally got turned on while in my bag, I thought, and took it and charged it up that night. Bust it out for my Wednesday morning swim, and nothing. Wouldn't even give me a "Power On" message. Took it home and let it dry out. Plugged it in, and I can't even get the charging light to come on. Battery is junk and won't take a charge much less hold one. I guess you get what you pay for.

Surprisingly good, and still going strong after more than a year
EDIT5:18 months old and finally starting to have issues. The buttons are becoming unresponsive to presses, it is pretty much hit or miss at this point if it will turn off, or on, or adjust volume, etc. Once on it does work fine, and the audio is just as good as day one. Battery still lasts a week easily, and drag and drop simplicity on file transfers. I have picked up a different MP3 player to try and it has a pretty high bar to get over with the way my Syryn has worked. I would still recommend this item to someone looking for an MP3 player for swimming with out reservation. EDIT4: Nearly 18 months with hardly any issues. Still get 10+ hours out of a charge (I have actually never ran it to dead battery, just charge once a week because it fit my schedule). The buttons are definitely starting to get a bit more finicky, sometimes they require a bit more force than I would like to use. They do still work so I haven't resorted to replacing the unit yet, although that is likely coming before the 2 year mark. However, for the price, nearly 2 years of almost daily usage in the pool is by my reckoning a very good value! I do think they could improve the product with more robust controls, but I still recommend them to my lap partners. END EDIT4 EDIT3: Nearly a year later and the Syren MP3 player is still holding it's own. Still only needs a weekly recharge and gets through 10+ hours in the pool. I have noticed that turning the unit on/off and adjusting the volume is starting to get a bit finicky. The switches don't always register when clicked, but it hasn't gotten bad enough yet for me to ditch the unit. I always unplug the earbuds and rinse and dry the connector, which really helps keep the corrosion down. The earbuds are starting to show their age as the rubber piece is starting to regularly pull off the earbud, leaving the rubber piece in my ear. Very inconvenient, but a little spot of superglue on each bud solved that issue. As they are nearly a year old with almost daily usage, I think they are doing pretty well, but probably will need to be replaced after a year. As for the buttons not always working, not sure if that can be fixed, but for the price of a new unit when it quits working I will probably just buy a new one. This has been easily one of the best aquatics purchases I have made and I recommend them if you are looking for a good lap swimming MP3 player. END EDIT3 EDIT2: After 6 months of daily usage the Syren MP3 player is still going strong. I charge it once a week and it's good for a weeks worth of training sessions (about 10 hours). They can keep the cheap goggles, but the player is worth every penny for me. END EDIT2. EDIT: The headsets that came with the player are touted (Swim buds) as the best water sports buds available. Well, after 2 weeks I was only getting audio from one ear. Check with another set of buds and it wasn't the player. In fact after 3 months of nearly daily swimming, the player has performed flawlessly. I contacted Amazon, and was a little put off that they wanted to replace the swim buds with another brand, AGPTEK SE11 IPX8 Waterproof In-Ear Earphones, Coiled Swimming Earbuds. They rebated part of the cost when I protested, but I finally gave in. The new buds arrived a few days later, and have been perfect ever since! Honestly, they sound better than the Swimbuds did, and the fit is better for my ears. The coiled cord is genius. With the Swimbuds you have to wrap the extra cord up but with these AGPTek ones, you just stretch them out, tuck under your goggle strap, and go. As with the Swimbuds, you need to use some FitGoo to get a good water tight seal. I have also found that f=after each swim you should unplug the buds from the player and clean the plug. At first I just left them plugged in and after a couple weeks the sound was getting weak. Pulled the plug out and noticed that it looked a little corroded. Cleaned with a little alcohol and a scrub pad and back in business. The player has never given me a problem with the buttons. Only problem now is I can't imagine having to swim without them! And bonus if you swim at a crowded pull with a bunch of talkative swimmers, you can't hear them and when they see you rocking out they quit trying to bother you! End EDIT Was a little hesitant at first after reading mixed reviews. I was an age group/HS/college swimmer and now masters with about 45 years of competitive swimming background. Was worried that without wearing a cap these wouldn't make it through a full workout with sprints, multiple strokes, and flip turns. But all those years of singing the last song you heard before hitting the pool finally got the better of me. The goggles are nothing special, just a generic Speedo/Arena/Tyr knockoff, but are comfortable enough for 2 hour pool sessions and definitely more comfortable than my old swedes. The first thing to keep in mind is to follow the recommendation to run the cords under the strap, it makes a difference. The second is that fit is everything. You need the largest earbud adapters that comfortable fit. Too small and they leak which ends up in no audio. Too large and they tend to work their way out. Once you determine which size buds to use make sure you use the fit goo (or vaseline/petroleum jelly) on the buds prior to inserting them. It helps to seal them in and keep the water out. Once the fit has been figured out then it's on to actually using them. I found that they weren't even noticeable attached to the back of my goggles (no cap). Operation of the unit is simplistic which is exactly what I want in a pool accessory. Contrary to what most reviews state, you don't need to pull just audio files to the device. You can pull folders of audio files and it will play them, but does so in alphabetical order by default. If you set it to shuffle mode it will play audio files in random order from multiple folders. After a week's worth of training sessions (1-1.5 hours each) I had to recharge, which works out to about 7 hours of play time. I will update this review after a month, but for now I would say if you are looking to get out of your head in the pool, do it!

Great when it works, Devastatingly frustrating otherwise
I like these headphones don't let that 3 star review tell you otherwise. Swimming is really boring and when you swim upwards of an hour like I do having something to take the edge off the boredom is really helpful. The mp3 player is compact, the controls are simple and easy to remember and finding mp3s are very easy with the use of a youtube audo downloader and vlc player to convert those files to mp3s. The headphones fit nicely with various different ear pieces for your comfort. The audio quality is perfectly adequate though I find the volume to be a bit low. As an mp3 player these are great especially if you have a massive head like me and bone conduction headsets won't work on your giant cranium. They fit comfortably and while it is a bit annoying that its harder to adjust the strap on your goggles because of it, that's a sacrifice I can live with. So why 3 stars? There are a few mundane complaints before the big one. The shuffle is odd, it seems to HEAVILY favor some songs over others. There are songs on my syryn that I have never shuffled into that I KNOW are there yet it will play me the same couple dozen songs every time I swim. The headphones broke after 3 months of use, to be more specific oen ear would occasionally stop working unless I flicked it just right. Still totally useable but very annoying and something I have since replaced. But I don't count that against the Syryn that much as I may have damaged the headphones by leaving them in high moisture for too long. So the main reason this thing is 3 stars is because of the battery life. They list it at 10 hours and that is some black magic because I need to charge this thing EVERY SINGLE DAY. If I EVER skip charging for a day this thing will give me its battery low IMMEDIETELY. Getting to the pool putting these on and hearing that stupid battery low at the start of my workout is infuriating. And the issue isn't actually because of the battery, its because the stupid thing turns on too easily. After charging I throw this thing in my backpack, sounds innocuous enough right? WRONG, for some reason it will then play constantly until it drains its battery. I KNOW this happens because I have charged the Syryn, placed it into my backpack. Then the next morning as I go to swim, "Battery low". If I leave the Syryn outside of my backpack overnight and then go to the pool, it works without a hitch. This makes its battery life basically worthless. It's not as if this is a one time occurrence, this has happened to me at least a dozen times in the few months that I have owned it. This is EXTREMELY frustrating because it is now a device I have to remember to charge and bring every single day. Forgot to charge it for one day? Doesn't work. Forgot to take it from the charger? Well you can't use it if you don't have it now can you? This is made even more frustrating since there is no ui. You have no idea how much battery life there actually is. So the only way to make sure this thing is actually charged is to use it. This just leaves too many points of failure and if you are human and make a mistake you are stuck unable to use this thing. The instruction manual states that it automatically turns off it isn't playing music for a few minutes and I have to say that is a flat out lie. With no headphones plugged in, it will still play till it is out of battery. Great for when I can use them but lord in heaven make this thing actually turn off when there are no headphones plugged in. that seems like a very easy fix.

Pool must have!
First off, this is my second Syryn - I purchased the first one in 2018 - after six years of religious use it finally bit the dust. To me that speaks volumes about the quality of the device. I initially made a switch to another waterproof mp3 player that didn't even seem to work out of the box and was returned. I then came back to my trusty Syryn. I hope that quality continues in the current generation. After the first use with the newest model, it seems everything I loved about the device is still there with some improvements. Given that I'm a pro with adding music, loading all my songs from the old device was easy (and adding new music is easy as well). In the pool, it clipped just as securely to my cap. The included headphones appear to have improved over the version that previously included - we'll see how long they hold up. The headphones from six years ago lasted a few uses before one ear would stop working so I quickly purchased a better pair. The current headphones were more comfortable and had great sound so it'll be great if they hold up. The buttons on the device are just as simple - no frills - although it now tells you if it is on or not. The buttons do wear over time but even after six years the buttons were pretty responsive right up until it wouldn't turn on. All in all this is a great little device if you enjoy have music while swimming laps or just playing in the pool. I look forward to my swim sessions again now that I have a functioning music player (I went a few sessions with the old device stopping mid session or just not turning on before I bit the bullet and replaced it).

Long overdue Rave about this company and their products
I very rarely take the time to post positive reviews on Amazon, but I thought I was long overdue to post my positive experience with Underwater Audio and their products. I will be updating my experience on the Syryn in the coming months/years since I have only had the player for a short period of time, but my first uses of the player have been fantastic. Since the cost was so low, I was preparing myself for an audio experience that wouldn't be as positive as what I had when I purchased one of their iPod Shuffles years ago. I had set my expectations quite low. However, I was very surprised when I received the player and the sound was as good as what I experienced with the Underwater Audio iPod Shuffle. The player is larger than the Shuffle, but it isn't too obtrusive. My only critique is that I found it a little harder to get the Syryn attached to my goggles as a result of how I like to rotate the clip to be perpendicular to the player. (It's difficult to squeeze the tiny edge of the clip open with wet fingers and I don't want to be too rough on it). Also, even though the cost was already very reasonable, I was thinking it would've been nice to have the cost even more reasonable if I didn't have their goggles, "Fit Goo," or pre-swim hair product. Some background on the company: Many years ago I purchased one of the iPod Shuffles that they had waterproofed (or made water resistent...I'm not sure of the correct terminology). In any case, I used my iPod Shuffle for just swimming laps. Although I consider myself a pretty technically proficient person, I had a bunch of problems getting my iPod to sync, and I thought it was an issue with my player that I got from Underwater Audio. I called the company and they had the nicest (and most incredibly patient person) in customer support try to walk me through my problem. When we went through all of the issues (and I even called Apple support and they couldn't help), Underwater Audio stood behind their product and sent me a replacement. When I received a replacement and faced the same problem, it was then that I discovered that it was a problem with my own computer because my ports on the front of my computer weren't working. In any case, their patience and willingness to stand behind any of their products is what gave me the confidence to purchase their Syryn. To sum it up, my experience with my Syryn so far has been great. I'm pleased with the sound, appearance, ease of operating the buttons, the ease of putting music onto the player, and the very reasonable cost of the player. I'm confident that if I happen to run into issues in the future, that I have found a reputable family company that understands good customer service and takes pride in their work. I'll be supporting them for as long as I can get into a pool and swim laps - and since one of my favorite friends at the pool just told me she is 94, I'm hoping I will be their customer for another 40-50 years! Way to go, Underwater Audio!

Works perfectly while swimming
This little device has changed my daily pool lap routine with adding music while swimming. Sound is great under water, blocks out 90% of noise but I do hear my splashes extremely faintly,Clips to my goggles. Ear buds keep out the water better than my regular ear plugs when using the gel that comes with the device. Absolutely recommend this mp3 player. Easy to use and download music.

Great product. High quality and great sound
For the price this product has amazing sound quality. It comes with a water hair care product and some gel for helping earphones seal in the ear. The MP4 player is easy to load with music, just copy them and paste from your playlist onto the player. Lasts about 6-7 hours on a fully charged battery. I recently did a 18km swim for charity and the MP4 player was fantastic for entertainment and did not fail me.
