I purchased this book after reading the beautiful review on BrainPickings. As a writer gently attempting to introduce poetry to my 5-year old son, I fell in love immediately. It's so special, in fact, that I'm saving it for Christmas. But that hasn't stopped me from sneaking into my hiding place and reading it myself several times! Lovely pictures, poetic writing, and a child's earnest curiosity about what a poem truly is makes for a gem of a story.

I love poetry and I wanted to encourage the love of poetry in my little cousins, age 1-6. I read this book when it arrived, prior to giving it as a gift, and could not understand why I had read such rave reviews of it. Perhaps it's that it is a translation from the original French, but I thought it was a bit confusing for kids.

Beautiful illustrations, beautiful language and beautiful ideas. Perfect for adults and children of all ages. Each individual metaphor adds up to the theme that poetry is different for each of us.

I randomly picked up this book at the library and it was such a hit that I bought a copy. The images are lovely and the text is like the best of poems. The story does a fantastic job of communicating the power of poetry to children. Even my sister, a high school English teacher, praised it and will share it with her classes.A fantastic introduction to poetry for children!

My all-time favorite picture book! It is in a category of its own. And very healing, although I am not a fish....

This is a light-hearted and delightful experiential introduction to poetry for very young children---translated very successfully from the original French.

This is a fun, engaging ,beautiful book for reading aloud. I am using it in my creative movement classes for young children as well as sharing it with adults who need an uplifting twinkle and chuckle.

A sweet premise-what is a poem. Every one has a different idea of what makes a poem. It may be a little abstract for my five year-old grandson but my desire is for him to be as creative with words and feelings as he is with his drawings.

Absolutely love this book, highly recommend it for any book lover. I have started to read it to our 5 month old and can’t wait to buy it as a gift for other children in our extended family.

A beautifully illustrated and written book for children and adults. Tracking one down is challenging, as it appears to be out of print and the second hand/book deposity price seems to yoyo between the entirely reasonable £12 mark and the jaw dropping several hundred pounds. Worth the wait though
