Do not buy this plastic junk, I would have returned but ran over my time. Would give 0 stars if I could. Metal canteens at the reenactments are only a few dollars more.

This is made of cheap plastic, and the covering doesn't do a lot to make it look better. It's enclosed by zippers instead of buttons, and the strap is short. The cork didn't seal the top so my trunk got wet, and the chain attaching it is healed on by hopes and dreams, rather than proper chain links.

The canteen is made out of plastic and the one of the handle straps just snapped of after i filled it full, plus the cork chain keeps popping off too. I bought a new canteen.

Absolute garbage. If you want something for reenacting this is not it. As far as I know the Confederate army did not make their canteens out of plastic.

I do period blacksmithing demonstrations at various event. I go by the 3-foot rule: If it looks good to the visitors from three feet, it's good. This one doesn't cut it. Even at three feet it's obviously plastic, and not very well constructed. It does hold water, though, so if you have a kid who wants a toy canteen to play civil war games, it's not too bad.

Bought for my grandson, who has gotten into Civil war reenactments. He absolutely loved this!Also, shipping was super fast!
