A good and versatile powerhead pump
This is a good product. I have four of them that do reverse flow under gravel filtration. If someone googles that function, it will come up in the aquarium literature good Aquariusts will experiment and adapt equipment to suit their needs and their particular aquarium. Every aquarium is built, just a little different. This product does indeed cover most situations. While it wasn't an exact fit for my use, I went through my box of little pieces parts, and made it work. I have been keeping fish since 1975. It would be a good idea to keep the box that this pump comes in along with the parts provided to adapt this pump to other uses for which it was designed save the instructions. You will need them sometime later. Should you wish to use this device for other things or to help those who come after you.

Good for keeping you tank water moving and helping your filters.
This has been awesome for my large planted aquarium, keeps the water flowing and is super quiet. My only complaint is if you try and move it the unit slide off the base or the suction cups tend to pop off, both are easily rectified, but it would be nice to be able to lock the unit to the base, that would easily fix one issue, and I’d rather a suction cup pop off than break off.

Good rating
The pump works very well. The accessory pieces did not fit snug, they fall off easily. But If you just need it to pump for filtration purposes, it will work for you.

Very happy and relieved
Finally I found a power head that does what I want. I've had my 40g tank set up for about a year now and I have gone through 3 other power heads that all failed. (Now I have to be honest that the first three were cheap and I should have known they were crappy). This one however seems to be much better quality, right out of the box. I am only using this for aeration and secondly for some extra circulation, that is why I went with the small 400 one. The first thing I noticed out of the box is that it comes with many parts that let you customize it, the cheap counterparts did not. (If you watch my video, you will see the black sponge filter, I added than myself since I already had it, but it is not necessary). Secondly it is somewhat heavier than my previous ones, I think that is a good sign. Somehow this one provides more bubbles, and smaller bubbles, even though the flow is a bit less, but that is exactly what I was needing. So far so good. I don't see a problem with the suction cups yet, I know that was a concern to some people, but I just installed it so I don't know, all I know is that they seem good quality. That's it, I will recommend (for now).

Lasted 6 weeks.
Seemed to work well initially, then after a couple weeks it stopped entraining and there were no air bubbles. I checked everything for blockage but there was no obvious occlusion in the line. Seems the force of the water flow had dropped drastically. Now it just sputters occasionally. Waste of good money.

Stick to a name brand!
After trying to save a couple of bucks and ordering a power head from a vendor for a place I probably would pronounce wrong and then returning two of them for the same defect (working for about a week and then dying due to an unevenly balanced rotor sticking in the magnetic motor) I found this Marineland power head for the same price(!) It's been running smoothly since I installed it and I,m not worried at all this it will last for years. I've had many Marineland products ver the years and when I managed a pet shop back in the early 80's this brand was considered a standard for good quality aquarium products. Definitely recommended.

It moves water, but feels cheep
Pros- It's very quiet, it moves water and it's cheep. Cons- it's cheaply made. It may be economical, but it's not a great deal. The parts are very thin and flimsy They snap together easily, but come apart even easier at the slightest bump. The suction cup mounting bracket is huge, clunky and cumbersome.its supposed to be adjustable for every angle, but I couldn't get it within thirty degrees of where I needed it to be. The bend in the swivel end was all wrong. I heated it with a lighter for about eight second and it esilly bent to the proper angle.cooled it with water then installed on my filter. I installed the air injector. It's supposed to suck air in by the venturi affects... But it didn't. I even completely removed the adjustable flow restrictor, still nothing. I checked the venturi key, it was clear. I could blow air through, but it would not draw it in by itself, no matter how close I got the pump to the surface. I finally just gave up. Usually when a venturi type injector doesn't work it's because the flow rate is too low for the orifice diameter. As it is fixed, and designed for this pump, I strongly suspect that the pump isn't moving the volume of water that it's supposed to. I even removed the filter... Still nothing. This has me wondering if it is going to burn out soon. I guess that would make it a temporary supplemental heater, minus the temperature controller. IF it continues to work without falling apart or burning out... It could be called an economical circulating pump. But that's about it. Assuming it doesn't burn out in the next two years, and I was desperately broke AND I couldn't find anything better for close to the price... I MIGHT buy this again. But I doubt it. I was kind of disappointed with what I got.

Does the job.
Update: This thing rattles the whole tank. Can’t be in the same room when it’s on or it drives you crazy. Waste of money. First review: It’s working. Doing what it should do. Instructions aren’t the greatest. There are a couple parts not listed in the diagrams. Bit noisier than expected too.

M-J 400 110/500 GPH not a sump pump
It cant be used as a sump pump for my tank filtration. The instructions show how to set it up as a sump in the instructions when setting up for Sump use, it doesnt reference the max head height and even then that max is "barely works" but its up to you to find elsewhere that max head height and know what that means. (im new to this stuff and still learning) Returning for the 230gph unit see if that will work better
