A little challenging to set up, but flew and looked great!
8/2017: Never got it into the air. It's so big and the lines so many, I needed a windless day to deal with it, but, of course, without lots of wind it would never make it into the air. I think it's a tangled mess now, after wrestling with it on a very windy day. Perhaps some day I'll set aside the time to take it out and see if there's an easy way to do the set up in order to be prepared to do the same on the needed windy day. It got it for a kiting event, but as for fun flying, I think I'd much prefer my stunt kite!8/30/2018 UPDATE: I had an opportunity to set this up on a low wind day, and the apparent entanglements were not as bad as I first thought when struggling with it on a very windy day. The tails and lines were moderately tangled but easily undone. Once I got everything sorted out, it was easy to launch singlehandedly. It even flew during a very low wind (around 2-3 mph) mass ascension event when many others could not get their soft kites into the air. The material is a very cheap nylon and the tails do fray from the wind, so be expecting that. But for the price, it was fun to fly and the purple against the gray sky looked great. Also, I was able to gently pull on the line which made the octopus eyes bulge in and out and "dance" in the sky to music. And regarding the COLOR, the actual color I received is more of a blue-purple rather than the violet purple pictured, and I like it much better.

Great kite, definitely worth buying
This is a great kite! Very easy to fly. We took it to the beach and had it in the air right away. It looks beautiful in the sky and people all over the beach were looking and taking photos. I don't know much about kites so I was a little intimidated when we first opened it and saw the complicated array of strings. But as another reviewer said, there's a video on Youtube that shows all you need to know to get it started. (Just go to Youtube and search for Octopus Parafoil Kite and you'll find the video.) It turned out to be very simple. We simply tied it to the line and let it out and the wind did the rest. Again, I'm not a kite expert so I can't compare it to others but it seems well made and durable enough. My only complaint is that the line it came with appears to be cheap and not very strong--it's not the brown string shown product photos. The line we did receive didn't break, but I wouldn't want to use it in stronger winds. Despite that, I would definitely recommend this if you're a beginner and looking for a fun, easy kite to fly.

A ton of fun at a reasonable price
I have to say, this thing really catches everyone’s attention. When it goes up in the air, everyone immediately notices it and starts looking for the source, and I’ve had a fair amount of people come up to me specifically to talk to me about it.I’m in the Midwest. It’s almost always windy here, and unlike what you see on coastal beaches, we don’t really have many kites flying around here, so people, but especially children, get incredibly excited when they see this big purple octopus a few hundred feet in the air. It’s bigger than I expected, and because of how light the material is, it will go up easily in consistent 4-6mph breezes. It definitely is not a high wind kite. Anything over about 10-12mph beats the heck out of it, and as a result of attempting to do so several times, my tails (the tentacles) are starting to fray.My only complaint about it is there is very little string included, so I ended up buying a kite reel (well worth the $15ish).Buy this kite!

Really unique kite that looks awesome in the air!
Works pretty good. Fairly easy to get in the air. Ours seemed like it wanted to curl up (like the eyes drew together underneath) but I think it might have been because my son likes to yank on the string. At one point, it was really high and looked super cool. Everyone was watching the giant squid! But it decided to go flat somehow and crashed. It was kind of a pain to wind 100 yards worth of string and find the thing in some bushes in the dune. Some nice girls in bikinis helped my teenage son get it out...so I think it would be considered a win for him! ha ha!! We did get another spool-type string winder because it is easier to hold. You do have to undo a couple of loose knots when you get it...it is really obvious, though which ones. I think they are just there to keep them from tangling in the package. It comes in a little bag, however the drawstring in the bag is just kite string, I might have to replace it with something more substantial, like shoelaces or something so the bag is more functional.

Kite is deep purple and not fuchsia purple
I wanted another 3D kite; and this one look good for the price. First I thought that I'm going to receive this beautiful big fuchsia purple kite featured on photograph. It did stated purple; and purple is what I got, but very deep purple. The kite is fairly large. It has design problems. 3D chambers travel only through half a kite. The kite is flat in the back half, making it harder to fill with wind. Also there are many many lines connected to the kite as seen on my picture. This makes it tangle and unable to fill with wind. And each time I needed to reopen the chambers to fill with wind in order to fly. I also found that I needed to give it several sharp tugs to get it to properly open when lifted by the wind. I own another 3D kite dolphin/whale; and this one has just three strings attached to the kite making it easy to fill with wind and it unravels itself. Wish they did put this kind of design on this octopus. After just one flying the streamers already frayed inch and a half. Will need to seal them before next flying. It does look gorgeous in the wind. My son also enjoyed it flying. It came with a nice bag and kite line. Line looked fine. I did not fly with it, but used my own 50lbs line.Pretty kite. Star off is for different color, and another for tangling string problem.
