Ampersand Gessobord | 6x6 | 1/8" Flat, 4pk | Oil & Acrylic Painting Panel

Ampersand’s Gessobord is a masterfully engineered support that has become a staple in my studio. The Archiva-Seal technology provides peace of mind regarding long-term preservation, effectively preventing support-induced discoloration. Unlike standard gessoed wood, this surface offers a sophisticated, lightly sanded texture that provides exceptional brush control for fine detail work while remaining robust enough for heavier applications. The density of the hardboard eliminates the "bounce" of canvas, allowing for precise marks and stable layering. I particularly appreciate that these panels are ready for immediate use without the need for additional priming or sanding, which is a significant time-saver in a professional workflow. In addition to the ground being ready to use as is, it accepts basic lead carbonate in oil ground well, providing a versatile foundation for various layering techniques. Whether used for intricate glazing or more direct painting, the surface remains consistent and reliable. It is a high-quality, archival support that I trust for my finished works.

The best I’ve found, almost impossible to find good wood to try and make your own, I found this brand and have been using it this product many times many paintings, what nice quality and a huge time saver Ampersand is the only way to go most definitely won’t be disappointed, one thing to look for packaging in shipment is unprotected had chipped corner, I repaired it reason being didn’t have time to send back and wait for another I needed it now, that’s my only beef with this product is the way its packaged for shipping

I love these! I use walnut oil paints and mostly do nature and cat paintings and these are a great value and the size is really perfect for both doing smaller studies and for affordability for buyers. The texture has a small amount of dimple but ive never had a warped or bent one from ampersand and i've bought probably 50 or more of these. On a rare occasion the corners have been dinged up from shipping but usually their packing takes care of it well enough. A really high quality product for a budget price, especially if you can catch them on sale.

I love these smooth (1/8”) panels for painting with liquid acrylics—pairs great with ampersand’s floating frame too.

Don't buy these here - Amazon always dings a corner and it arrives damaged. Great product but I go through an art supply store now. They pack it carefully.

Good board.

Gessobord has a much better finish than other brands. you can paint on this and still blend your paint. The other brands I've used are much too absorbent and your paint sinks in immediately. Dries it out, and makes it difficult to blend. This isn't like that. Like the little bear's porridge, this is just right. I've been painting for 50 years, 46 professionally - this is the only brand I will spend my money on.

This is a great product. But Amazon just can't deliver it intact. This is the second time they shipped this fragile product to me in a paper envelope. It's damage on arrival again. Amazon, what's become of your shipping prowess?

They are smaller than I thought. Although, I’m sure they’re of great quality, but there are almost zero local retailers here in Germany, who offer Ampersand Gesso boards. The cost rises so high with all the shipping costs from Amazon or any other online shop. I wish Ampersand would find a way to offer its products directly to the customers in Germany without shipping costs. It’s expensive enough already. But it’s truly a nice product.

The best!!!

Expensive but beautiful surface to paint on!

Good quality boards as any ampersand product. Have a slight smooth bumpy texture different from both sanded and unsanded gesso that one typically gets doing it manually. One needs to try it to see if they like it for particular painting medium and style.
