I add water below safety valve. When making coffee the steam is going out through the safety valve. Is this normal?

Dear customer,
The reason of the steam escaping from the safety valve is that the pressure of the lower body is too high and also the steam water can not go up to the higher body. The safety valve is to help lower the pressure when it is too high and protect ourselves. 
Please add water below safety valve. Please do not press or tamped the coffee powder(if the coffee powder tamped tightly, steam can not go up). Please do not use the coffee powder which is ground very fine, the small coffee powder will easily stuck in the parts of the moka pot. Make sure all the parts are clean enough. If the coffee powder or other something is stucked in the basket, filters or other parts, the steam can not go up to the higher body or go up slowly. DO NOT place onto a stove on a high heat. Gentle low heat is all that is required. If it is not the reasons above, please contact our after sale service. We will make sure to address your problem. Thank you.
By the way, for safety, please make sure the valve is not clogged with water gunk.

Does it mean that if it doesn't say (exactly) made in usa, it's not?

My guess. Yes, If it is not stated on the box or instructions you are correct. I don't remember reading the instructions. They all work the same way.

Can this be used to brew regular coffee not just espresso?

You can use any kind of finely ground coffee in it, but this pot uses the espresso method. The water goes in the bottom, the filter basket filled with ground coffee sits on top of the water. As the water heats up on the the stove, it is "expressed" thru the ground coffee into the top container. Espresso refers to the method, not the kind of coffee.

What is the inside diameter of the coffee filling bowl? In millimeter or inches is okay?
