A really great little HOB filter!
So I did a lot of reading up on this filter before I bought it, there are people out there on Amazon and Youtube saying that the pump is too loud, and that it empties if there is a powercut. This is all nonsense as long as the piping is connected properly and there are no air leaks. The fittings are quite tight and require more than the usual effort to get them connected securely, so this may have been where people have gone wrong. There is a flow control valve on the inlet, if you play around with it by opening and closing it, you can quickly get rid of the initially trapped air by leaving it open/closed for a few seconds. Once all the air bubbles are gone, you will only hear a faint hum, just like with any other pump.I noticed that there was a small air leak coming from the aforementioned flow control valve, but I think this was due to the rubber o-ring on the valve being slightly out of position. After I turned the valve a few times, the o-ring reseated itself and the air leak stopped.I suspect that the people who say it empties after a powercut also have air leaking in.When I had the filter up and running normally, I tested to see what would happen by unplugging it. The water level inside the filter did drop a little, but then stopped. I came back 20 minutes later and the water level was the same. However, it is very obvious that any joints above water level and exposed to air, that don't have a good seal, will allow air into the filter and cause the water level inside the filter to drop, requiring it to be primed again manually. When I plugged the filter back in, it operated as normal. My filter worked right out of the box, but if for some reason you do have problems getting your pipes to seal properly, you can simply use some vaseline or superglue gel to get them air tight.Another tip I'd give to anyone buying this filter is to replace the media inside one of the cartridges with a £15 100ml bag of Purigen. This stuff is great for getting the water crystal clear, it does this by absorbing any pollutants like tannins that leach from wood and cause discolouring. It's a bit tricky to open up the filter cartridge (I used a flat head screwdriver to get under the small plastic tabs), but once you do, you can take out the black carbon foam and replace it with the 100ml bag of Purigen which is just the right size, and keep the white floss pads.Overall I'd say that for the price, this is a great little filter. The only down side I can see so far is that the flow coming out of the filter doesn't create as much movement as I'd like and I'm thinking about getting another pump. I don't really want to do this as I like to keep as much equipment out of the tank as possible, but I think it's a fair compromise considering I've got such a large filtration system on the outside rather than inside.

Nice little filter I have it running on a 30l tank and it does the business.

Rubbish
There is a previous review that is gold that I followed - however although this is easy to put together even using the guidelines it would not work mainly because of air locks impossible to move - Motor burnt out in minutes (being dry) It eventually went - right into the bin..

Very good
Very good value for money working well

Less than 7cm wide which was very convenient as I had pushed the tank too close to the wall
THE PUMP IS GREAT THE ONLY THING WRONG WITH IT MY SKIMMER IS TOO HIGH IN THE WATER AND THERE FORE DOESN'T WORK IF THEY HAD PUT IN A LITTLE EXTRA TUBEING I COULD HAVE LOWERED IT.ALSO WHEN THE ELECTRIC GOES OFF IT EMPTIES ITSELF SO YOU HAVE TO REFILL IT TO START IT AGAIN WHICH MIGHT BE DIFFICULT IF THE ELECTRIC GOES OFF DURING THE NIGHT AND COMES ON AGAIN LATER BECAUSE YOUR MOTOR WILL BURN OUT

Utter rubbish.
Motor burned out in 3 months. In let vents too wide for nano fish. Killed at least 5 ember tetras and a kuhli loach

Beware
Impossible to get replacement filter media, fish die in the inlet unless cover with mesh, if any debris gets to impeller will burn out motor irreparably. Had three big floods when these failed and several dead fish. Now can’t get media anywhere
