does this pot work on regular camping stoves?

Yes. My Boy Scout troop and I have used this on both the MSR Whisperlite backpacking stove and the classic Coleman propane stove. The pot worked fine and if anything I think it boiled the water faster than usual on the Coleman stove. The only issue with had was when the flames on the backpacking stove was a little high and blackened the handles on the side but that was more of an user error than a fault of the pot.

This is ridiculously expensive. Is there another Chinese pot that doubles as a storage for the genesis stove?

This is the only pot of this size associated with the Genesis unit.

I know half gen fits inside but will this pot fit inside case for halfgen?

No. This pot would be way too big. You should look at the 1.5 L pot. The 5 L is too big.
