Another awesome Defender!
Update Oct 2021 - my charging port tab at the bottom was hanging by a thread after almost a year of use, which has never happened with any of my past Defenders, so I bought a new case online at the OB site (searched out the discounts and managed to save $15!). Still, this is an awesome case, so the 5 stars remain.I decided not to give in to ‘new-phone-envy’ this year and stay with my awesome 12 Pro Max, so how about a new case anyway since the bottom tab hinge wore out? Like I’ve got a new phone! 📱😎I’ve had Black for all my phones, and this time I decided to go with the Varsity Blues. I thought that the inner light blue hard shell liner would be “too bright” and distracting, but it’s not at all.Original review:This is my 8th iPhone — knock on wood, all have had an OtterBox Defender from the 3GS on with no damage over a fair number of drops, though I am very careful or try to be. You simply must do what you can to protect these very expensive devices! Fits my new iPhone 12 Pro Max perfectly.I upgraded the phone through my AT&T account online, and when I ordered this 12 Pro Max I went ahead and added their suggested glass screen protector. Forgot the name of the vendor AT&T uses for the protector, but the box was similar to the MaxBoost (is that the name? I forgot) ones I usually get here on Amazon. It is really a high quality product, but AT&T’s only has ONE protector in the box, FYI.That said, the ‘system’ for mounting it to your phone is idiot-proof - best I’ve seen. Anyway, point being it allows plenty of room all around for the Defender parts to snap into place. I can’t comment on this year’s MaxBoost or other top screen protectors, but the AT&T one is perfect, almost like they had the OtterBox in mind. This Defender case is trim and form-fitting - less bulky than in the past, it seems. Good thing as this phone is pretty big! It helps that if I recall right the 12 Pro Max is a wee bit thinner (?), which seems to be reflected in a less thick case.

Great for 3 years
Worked great for 3 years with a lot of falls of my iphone and nothing happened to it, which is awesome. It's in parts now due to use.

Excellent case!
Had one for about 3 years and wore it out! So I bought this one to replace it! Same quality and fit as before! Good case!

Otterbox Defender Series is still the most durable phone case
Otterbox Defender Series phone case is still the most durable phone case I can find. My 4th case from years of different phones, both iPhone & Androids. This one I bought for a iPhone 12 Pro Max & it fits perfectly. Protects the phone great, hard plastic inner shell with a rubberized outer shell for shock absorption protection & grip, substantial thick lip front and back around glass screen & cameras for protection & holds up well. I’m a very active outdoorsy type so my phone always takes a serious beating. A little more bulky than standard hard shell cases, but necessary for the added protection.Cons: The only major downside that’s really disappointing is for the first time ever, the Defender (military grade protection) doesn’t come with a phone screen protector or camera lens(es) protector? So you have to buy them separately. I’m still searching for ones that stick to the phone or hold up without getting sand or water in them since the phones are waterproof now. I’m hoping switches back & starts selling Otterbox phone cases with screen protectors with their phones again. I imagine they stopped to stay price competitive. It would be nice if they added a build in credit card holder like many modern phone cases have now as well & a kickstand & wrist strap. That would be the ultimate phone case.Best phone case brands out there are Otterbox & Pelican, but I feel Otterbox Defender is still better than the competition.

protective, not as thick as the older Otterbox
I have used this case for more than three years. It has protected my phone from drops on the concrete, tile and hard vinyl floor from three to four feet high. The charging cover has since fallen off from opening and closing. The small thin part of the rubber above the charging port has broken apart, but not separated. It is still held on together well and covers the phone well. There is no scratches or cracks on the screen from the drops. I do have a screen protector but it doesn't have scratches either. It is not as thick and strong as the older Otterbox I have had. It is a trade off between less bulkiness, more sleek design and less protection. However, during the hot summer days it is not as warm. Batteries tend to go bad faster when it is hotter. The color contrast between light green and dark blue is a good mix. The texture is okay that I do not lose grip easily. When I do drop the phone is when I am in a rush or trying to carry too many things at once. But in a year or so I feel I might need to change the case. My in-law has the same case but on the iphone 13 pro max. It is slightly snug, but still fits. He uses the belt holster and seems to like it. However, I do not use it, so can't comment on it.
