THESE ARE AWESOME!!
Man, I can't say enough good things about this lantern! First of all, tho, make sure you get the shorter one (check with a ruler) rather than the longer one. This shorter one is the one you want! I put mine on a shepherd's hook, one on each opposite side, in the garden near my front door, my front door is my "oasis" and relaxing area, from where I can view all of my favorite things, including these lanterns! And every time I look out my door at night or sit on my porch at dusk, the lanterns just "make" it look PERFECT! They are a "10" in my book!! When other people write negative things about this lantern, like "cheaply made" or whatever, I think you would have to be about a foot away from it to think that, and even then, I DON'T THINK THAT! They look like they could be $100 apiece, and they are so inexpensive! I've had mine out for nearly a year and they are still bright at night (well, it's a subdued brightness, just like you'd expect, not like 140 lumens, more like a 50.) They have lasted beautifully through the snowy winter, also. Love these and highly recommend. My neighbors complement them, too. (Update: 5/25/18, had these babies up for 1 1/2 years now, and love them more than ever!! Even under a grove of aspens (mottled sunlight), they still have enough light to light up well into the wee hours! I wish every solar product had such an excellent energy-collecting solar battery!!)

Very nice decoration for dark yard
I really like this light. It was exactly what I was looking for. NOTE: This light will *not* provide a bunch of illumination. I suggest buying a different light if you need to truly light up a specific area. I see this light as purely decoration. It went in our backyard, which is pitch black at night. This lantern provides a pleasing glow in the "black hole" that is a pleasure to look at. I like the design. It has one LED in the faux candle and one LED on the underside of the top. The glow of the light is yellow (rather than harsh white like a lot of solar lights). The weight of the lantern is very light. It turns on at dusk reliably. Currently at our house, it's dark from about 5:30pm until probably 6am. I don't know yet if the light lasts all through the night (it's light outside by the time I get up), but I know the light is still on at 10-11pm when we go to bed, so I know it lasts at least 5-6 hours. I will consider buying more of these lights for other dark spots in the yard.

Stay lit all night, but they have some quality control issues
The Pros: -These actually look pretty good in the evening and night. They have a nice warm light unlike so many "cool blueish" LED solar lights out there. -They are sturdy an built solid. -They give off a moderate amount of usefull light as well. -They give off full light nearly all night long. great strong quality batteries -The switch is high quality and built to last unlike so many switches on affordable consumer products The Cons" -These need to be hung with the top's below eye level unfortunately. The two "true white" LED's inside the top that shine down on to the candle just stick out on a short wire. The pleasing effect is lost when the LED's shine into your Eye's. I wish they had recessed these to lights a little bit so they still shown down into the lantern cavity but without being exposed so easily to direct sight -theyse are not remotely water tight. It appears this is because the solar cell's on the top were not centered properly in their intended recesses before they were glued on top of the houseing. after after a light rain water got inside the lanterns. I had to turn them upside down to drain the water out. I imagine if these were left in the rain for more than a few times it will likely lead to residue, mold, or mildew in the lanters. Also the water comes in throught the housing at the top that contains the electronics and batteries. Not sure how many times these will stand up to a "surprise" summer rain. So far: after 1 full spring and summer these are still going great!

Beautiful lanterns
I have now had these for just short of one year, so I feel I can give a fair review. These are very attractive lanterns. I purchased 2 of them to light my patio. They provided 6-8 hours of light each night, even throughout the colder winter season. After one year, one of the units has required new rechargeable batteries. The other is still going strong. Each uses 3 AAA Nimh rechargeable batteries, which are readily available at Batteries Plus or the hardware store. Changing out the batteries was easy. Two screws to remove the lid, then 3 small screws over the battery case inside. Old batteries out; new batteries in; a day of sunshine and it is back to working beautifully. The only drawback to these lanterns that I see is that they are made of plastic. Plastic won't rust or corrode and the finish has not faded or anything in one year of use. The lanterns sides have not yellowed or clouded. BUT, they are not quite heavy enough to withstand a really strong wind. I had to add some weights to the top without blocking the solar panel to help weight them down. Other than that minor issue, I am very happy with them, and can recommend them. I am considering buying two more.

Update
I recently purchased two of these lanterns to replace others bought a couple years ago. Both lanterns worked for a little over a month, long enough to be outside the Amazon replacement window of 30 days. The Smart Solar warranty is good for one year. One lantern had a badly corroded circuit board that rendered the unit inoperative. I contacted Smart Solar customer service. Although they were initially hard to contact via telephone, once I made contact they couldn't have been more responsive. After providing some information including model and production batch number and a photo of the damaged part, they sent a replacement lantern immediately. Unfortunately the replacement also had a corroded circuit board and never worked. This time I emailed the same info with a picture of the damaged part. Pictures of both corroded circuit boards are shown above. They replaced the unit without further correspondence. Therefore, the reason for the low rating is the apparent lack of quality control by Smart Solar's supplier. When they work, they work well and are an attractive addition to the landscape. Unlike others, I found the customer service from Smart Solar to be excellent and after the hiccups described above, I am satisfied. Update: rating downgraded to one. The most recent replacement died after a week. This time customer service did not respond so obviously they are as tired of me as I am with the time I have spent trying to make this purchase work. Quality control on the newer version of this product, compared to the units I bought a couple years ago, is practically non-existent. Don't buy this product unless you need a new hobby.

It's beautiful, and the replacement lantern works beautifully!
I was so excited to receive my solar lantern, and it worked great at first. I noticed that the ON/OFF switch seemed rather flimsy, and sure enough it broke! I only used the switch once! I have called the company, and they promised to replace the lantern. I called and emailed my invoice Monday. It is Wednesday now, and I haven't gotten any kind of response to my email. Hopefully, they will come through and replace the item. I also purchased the smaller version, and it is working like a champ. I was surprised at how much light both lanterns give off. PRODUCT UPDATE: I received an email update 2 days after contacting customer service at Smart Solar. They shipped a new lantern, and I received it 10 days later. It is gorgeous! It works beautifully. The ON/OFF switch is in working condition on this lantern. I would not hesitate to make another purchase from this company.

Great lantern but it leaks and now has 3/15/2-15 has died due to water leaking into electronic parts.
Very attractive lantern and is a perfect addition to any deck or patio. Appears to cost much more than paid. However, the one question I asked, "does it leak?" The response was to that was, "unknown." I hung the lantern outdoors for 2 days and all was well. The third day it rained. That night the lantern did not light. Waited another day for full sun and that night it again did not light. I unscrewed the top and water ran on to my pants. Checked the batteries and they were dead. Dried the water from where the batteries are located and placed newly charged batteries and the lights came on. Where the wires came through on the top to the batteries there is a small area where the wires enter the battery compartment. That was the only place I figured where water could enter the top portion. I filled that hole with silicon and that should take care of the leaking problem. Will update if the silicon does not fix the leaking problem. Regardless, it is worth the extra step before hanging the lantern or you will have to do as I and take the lantern apart and dry or return it. 04/7/2015: The lantern finally died due to water leaking into the electronics. The last act was noting the lantern would no longer charge the batteries. Figuring perhaps the batteries were the problem and installed two new rechargeable batteries. The lights came on immediately; however, upon setting the lantern back outdoors and in the sun, the lights did not shut off. Therefore, I turned off the light until it became dark and turned on the light. The next morning the lantern lights were off as it was sunny. The situation was anything than normal. The lantern was taken indoors where it would be dark and the lantern would become lighted but the light did not come back to life. This leakage is a major flaw to an excellent looking product. If the company's quality control wishes to continue to sell these lanterns, they will have to immediately solve the leakage problem and I hope they do and then announce the leakage situation has been solved. Update. After my first attempt to stop the leakage into the components compartment, the leaking ceased. However, the lantern began leaking again around the solar cells but this time it was too late to fix. The water shorted out the circuit which will not charge the batteries or turn off the lantern when the sun rises in the morning. I am ordering another lantern and will take steps to secure any area that could possibly leak into the area of the electronic components that control the operation of the lantern. Will update again later if I am either successful or unsuccessful in preventing rain water leakage into the electronic components in the top of the lantern.

Beautiful Lantern
We now own three of these lanterns. They look so beautiful when the solar candle glows. They’re sturdy enough to handle 40 km wind gusts which we seem to be having regularly this spring! I definitely recommend this product.

It's beautiful.
It does an excellent job of lighting the end of my front walk. It is very attractive hanging on a short shepherds hook.

Really nice lantern
Very attractive, nice size, looks like a candle burning. Light is not very bright, but that was not what I was looking for anyway. I recommend it and would not hesitate to buy it again.
