A Disappointing Falnama
I was really disposed to like this Falnama, the first that has appeared in the English language. I was hoping for at least a page of historical background to put this noble divination tradition into context, but there is nothing except a single sentence on the back of the box. The cards are well executed, but the copy editing of the whole book and box text is truly a disappointment. No copy editor has been over the text to enable it to be read in English, and it has mistakes like 'if proud feeds arrogance,' rather than 'pride.' (P.45) It has the feel of being written with a dictionary close to hand and the verses do not read very fluently. Considering that the incomparable poetry of Hafez or the text of the Holy Koran has been used to divine with in the Falnama tradition, this comes a very poor second. I hope that a reprint edition might correct the linguistic mistakes and enable the author's text to be properly represented.
