Worth the gamble
I've had this monitor for almost a month now with no issues, no dead pixels, everything works perfectly well. I had been eyeballing this model of monitor for a couple of years now, and when I went to look for it new, it was still sitting at $1,700 on Best Buy and Amazon. How this has held its value over the years so excessively is beyond me, but amidst my browsing I came across this monitor "refurbished" on Amazon. I read their little excerpt about it being more environmentally friendly to buy used/refurbished vs new, and admittedly that made sense. I've been working for a tech company over the past few months, and the amount of electronics that we have to throw away - because the recycling station tells us they can't recycle this and that - is saddening. So that coupled with the fact that this monitor was only $700 refurbished (when I got mine) and I figured I'd gamble on it.I was minorly disappointed - when I finally unboxed this puppy a few days after ordering - to find that it had a tiiiiiiiiiny scratch in the bottom right corner on the screen, but it's so negligible that I figured it wouldn't matter too much; and I was right. When the monitor is turned on and displaying all of its dazzling fast moving pixels, I don't even remember that the tiny scratch is there. Again, it has no dead pixels, and performs perfectly well. I can't remember the exact hours of usage this monitor had on it when I first plugged it in, I think a little over 4,000, but it's definitely running like a champ. The way I see it, I got 99% of the monitor I would have gotten in new condition, but at less than half the price. When you look at it that way, it's an absolute steal. If you're like me, and you pour over a bunch of reviews before you decide to purchase something expensive, then I'd say this is definitely worth giving a shot. If I could give this a 4.5/5 stars I would, but overall I'm satisfied enough that I'll just round it up to 5.

Best gaming/productivity combo display, and at a steal renewed
I pulled the trigger on this monitor last week and have been incredibly happy with it. The renewed I received only had 130 hours on it, and still had the plastic wrap on the edges of the display. No dead pixels, nice uniformity, no physical damage, and everything still in the accessory pack. I chose this monitor to replace my old AW3418DW because I needed something that was great a gaming, but also a fantastic productivity monitor. The jump to 160hz from 120hz is noticeable, and this display also has great HDR (not QD-OLED great, but still great) which has made games come to life on this larger 38" screen. When not playing games, the standard pixel structure of this Nano IPS display keeps text super sharp. Dropping down to 120hz can also get you great 10bit color, instead of the 8bit dithered, for color accurate work. While I would have loved to get an QD-OLED, or standard OLED, those display from Samsung and LG have a pixel structure creates fringing that I guess I'm very sensitive to. I looked at the AW3423DW many times at my local Micro Center, but no matter what I did to the Clear Type, the text looked bad.TLDR; If you're looking for a gaming monitor that can do double duty as a fantastic work display, this 38" LG panel is the way to go. It has fantastic color, great refresh and response rates, good I/O and plenty of screen real estate to handle game time and work time alike.

Spectacular renewed ultrawide monitor for a great price
When I opened the box the monitor looked brand new. It had all the protective plastic bits that you peel off. I couldn't tell the difference between this and a brand new one.It was easy to assemble on the stand. I plugged my Windows desktop into the DisplayPort and my work Mac into the HDMI. The HDMI has a max 70Hz refresh rate which is plenty for work productivity. The DisplayPort connection I have set to 160Hz which is great for gaming. It was plug and play on both computers.A few tweaks to the monitor settings like lowering sharpness a little which is set too high by default and the picture looked amazing. There were no dead or stuck pixels. Gaming on it is incredible. HDR may not be bright enough for some folk but it is more than good enough for me coming from a monitor that did not have HDR.I could not ask for a better monitor for the price I paid. Highly recommended.

I hit the refurb jackpot!
I have been looking at picking up a 38GN950-B for a while now and check often for a good price. Well, I'd say $729 for refurbished model in the advertised "Excellent" condition was worth a shot so I ordered one from the G-Overstock seller a couple days ago when they surprisingly hit that low price and it showed up today. They must have sold the 20 they showed in stock at that price because I went back and checked a few minutes after completing my order and they were sold out again. At least at $729. So keep checking if you want one. They go on sale randomly. Anyways.. When it arrived today, the box was a little rough looking so I set my expectations accordingly. Upon opening the box, it I was amazed to see that the stand had never even been taken out of its protective wrap, all the cables were in their original plastic bags and never opened and the monitor itself had all of its protective plastic tape over the glossy front and side bezels. It literally looked brand new aside from the box obviously previously being opened. So the moment of truth.. Being a claimed refurbished one, how many hours of use were on it? Well, check out the pic I posted. IT HAS EXACTLY ZERO HOURS ON IT! Brand spankn new baby! Wow.. No dead pixels and not even the slightest imperfection on the screen or anywhere for that matter. I am completely blow away. What a fantastic monitor for a steal of a price. Now,. I can't speak for everyone who's ordered one but I feel like I hit the refurbished jackpot. I am absolutely in love with this beast of a display. It far exceeded my expectations. My advice is just order one and take the chance. Amazon gives you a 90 day refurbished free return policy so why not!?
