This is the real deal. Cork, leather, a buckle or two: these are the simple ideas that have made feet happy for over two hundred years, and that's the original Birkenstock. These shoes are made in Germany since 1774. No smoke, no mirrors, and no gizmos are needed. You walk, the shoe molds to your foot. The shape of the Original Birkenstock Footbed enables body weight to be distributed evenly over the whole foot, providing it with optimal support.

These are the real deal!
These are the real thing! I purchased a pair last year from another seller and they were NOT all leather like these (my dog who chewed up one of the sandals didn’t seem to mind). With these being leather, there wasn’t even the break-in period. They were comfortable out of the box. They were a great value too.

Excellent Sandals Worth the Wait!
As I live in the U.K. I had looked enviously at Amazon U.S. for the great choice of Birkenstocks - here there are hardly any of the Soft Footbed type available and nothing like the choice of different leathers either! Originally the cost of the Milanos + postage and Taxes made them too expensive but then one day they were on a really good offer in my size EU40 Narrow (9.5 AA U.S.) so I had to have some! Really pleased that I did - despite the fact that they took 15 days to arrive, held up in Customs - I really like the shiny black Amalfi leather and the Footbeds are quite a revelation! I already have a pair of Original Footbed Milanos and there really is a world of difference. The Soft Footbed type are much more cushy to wear straight away, while the originals take quite a while to break in, although when they do, they are really comfortable too. My new Birkenstocks are much the same fit as my original Milanos but I find the fit to be slightly snugger (which I don't mind as I do have AA feet) - suspect as the latex compacts down there will be more room - and I actually find the leather on the new ones to be a bit softer and more pliable than on my original Smooth Leather Milanos. So I'm happy to wear the new ones in the summer without socks to get the full benefit of the soft footbeds and just as happy to wear socks (I know it's not "cool" but I am nearly 60!) with the original Milanos and with my Arizonas - at least until the very thick, quality leather softens up some more. I am really happy with my purchase and would definitely recommend these sandals for their comfort and good looks! Excellent service from Amazon who also gave me a further discount as the shoes arrived late!

Once you go Birks, you stay Birks
My feet have been in Birks when not in boots (retired Army) since 1992. Yes, you read that right, at the time of this review, I have been wearing Birks for 28 years. I have had 2 pairs of Arizona sandals (one still in service) and 4 pairs of Milano sandals (2 still in service, this pair is the 4th), two pairs of London (or is it Boston?) shoes, one brown, one black, both in service. Not many pairs for 28 years, since Birks are durable, and can be refurbished/renewer with new foot beds and outsoles, leather restored for around $80. So, they are recyclable in a sense. All this to say - this product is not a fake. I know Birks. These are Birks. Newsflash, Birks are “popular” and a fad again. No doubt Birkenstock is struggling to keep up with demand, and perhaps quality is suffering. But not with this new pair, for me at least- the quality is the same as ever. I took a picture of new and old next to each other.I got this pair since I was interested in trying the soft bed, and typically I get the Nubuck leather. I wanted to try a new brown leather, as well as have a new pair for fancy hippy get together. Well. I make a horrible hippy. Sure, I wear Birks and drive a Subaru. But - I have short hair, don’t smoke MJ (or any drugs for that matter) and am politically independent / Libertarian. The leather in this pair is shiny, not at all like the product listing photos. The picture of them on my feet show the difference. However, I like the leather, as it is different for me.The soft bed? Absolutely fabulous! I am glad that I gave the soft bed a go!

Need to be broken in... BIG TIME
The cork soles of these are perfect, they fit my feet perfectly, and they're no different than other Birkenstocks I've worn. The leather uppers are a lot tighter on my feet than I remember. I've been wearing them since April 3, 2017, and the leather uppers still need to be stretched out and broken in. Once I get them on they're comfortable, mostly. After a day of wear the tops of my feet ache, but that's getting better as I stretch out the leather.Ideally I wouldn't notice these sandals on at all, and they'd come off and go on as easy as slippers. Alas, they're not there yet, but I have hope they will get there with continued use!

Love my birkenstocks!
According to Birkenstock's size chart, I should wear a size 39 for an 8-8.5 size show. However, I found them to be wayyyy too big. So I went down a size to a 38 and they fit perfectly! I have wanted these shoes for years and I finally have them. I love how hard the leather is. It's a rich brown leather that will age beautifully over time. The leather is very stiff so for now I am wearing them with socks, which works out well during the colder winter months. With socks on, the hard leather doesn't bother me at all so by summer they should be soft enough to go without socks. I have very high arches and typically wear inserts inside my tennis shoes. I don't seem to need any kind of insert with these shoes. My arches don't ache at all in these. It's absolute heaven! If you've wanted these for a long time like I did but are unsure because of the cost, take my word for it, they are worth every penny! Also, the shipping information got messed up on my order and that made me nervous. I sent them an email and they responded promptly and courteously! Excellent product and excellent customer service!
