yes, the wings were packed in a different package. As I know, there is no strap inside the helmet, but you can make one by yourself.

Is there somewhere on the inside to attach a chin strap?

no, there is chin strap, but you can add one strap at the wings' ends.

How do you assemble the wings with the helmet? They seem to wide for the slots.

it's easy to assemble the wings, just to put them in the slots.

Does the helmet look like the gray in the first photo or the second photo?

Kind of in between the two. It's not a dark as the second photo, not as bright as the first photo, but it's closer to the first photo. It doesn't look bad though. People compliment my dad on it all the time, so the color isn't super fake looking in my experience.
