The lid can be kept in the open position. After lifting the lid using the foot pedal, the lid can be gently pushed back so it remains open for as long as needed.

Does this have a locking lid option to prevent kids from opening it?

No. It opens with a foot pedal.

Same here, plastic pin on the foot pedal broke. AMAZON can supply you with the manufacturer contact info. One year warranty, maybe they need to change it to a 30 day warranty!

NO. Its bottom is a ring of black hard plastic. You can push it around on a hardwood floor, laminate floor or other hard smooth surface floor.
