The John Phillips New Testament Commentary, 19 Volumes (John Phillips Commentary)

Excellent Commentary on the New Testament
John Phillips is both an interesting author and offers great insight into the Scriptures. Sometimes he has a tendency to allegorize just a bit too much. If one is aware of this, his work is very valuable. I recommend this set to any serious student of the Bible!

I sat in this MAN ,class at Moody Bible Int.
The Spirit he speaks with I found so Powerful ,and overwhelming it would drive you to repent and ask for forgivenesshis first class was full the second class they had to double the class room , had student standing in the hall way and sitting on the floor listening that was not even enrolled in the class .

but on the whole I would love to have this whole collection
Not sure what book the person read with a one star rating! I have only read half of the book on John, along with God's word of course, and I'm blown away with the insight and words that make me stop and really think about the scriptures I'm r eading and what the Holy Spirit is saying to me personally through them. There are parts that can be interpreted differently based on denomination, as with anything, but on the whole I would love to have this whole collection, except for the price....one book at a time will have to do!

To say I'm pleased with this set is a gross understatement
have wanted these books for couple of years. To say I'm pleased with this set is a gross understatement. John Phillips commentary is for preachers, teachers, and anyone who desires to get into the Word...in everyday language that even new students of the bible can understand. I recommend it to anyone who wants a clear understanding of scripture.

No understanding of first century context
I can't in good conscience recommend this work. I have not read each commentary but enough to know that Mr. Phillips lacks a good understanding of first century context. This work is loaded with anachronisms and theological dogmas. Not for the serious student of the Word, or anyone for that matter. There is a plethora of commentaries available, do yourself a favor and get those and avoid this set as if it were a plague.
