Makes a satisfying finish to an already sharp edge
I've had the standard kitchen knife sharpeners for years and they've always done a good job but my son is an outdoors kind of person and has a large collection of knives that needed razor sharp edges so we thought we'd go all out and get something a bit more professional. This setup means you can use any type of grindstone that is cut down to the right size (or even wider ones might work) they clip into the spring loaded space on the main handle which is attached via a ball joint to the clamp holding the knife which is in turn clamped onto a hard surface (like a work surface) .Doing this allows you complete adjustability in the angle that you are grinding at, as well as being able to angle the knife to get an easier angle of attack on difficult edges. It comes with 4 different grindstones (120 / 320 / 600 / 1500 )which should be enough to satisfy most knife sharpeners to their hearts content. It takes a little bit of practice still, but the way it's setup means you can get a consistent edge with it being a lot more rigid than just doing it by hand as well as having the ability to apply more pressure when needed.

Decent sharpener
Sharper works OKIt's a bit of a pain to set up and set angles properlyI've found that only the diamond stones really workAnd infact I've had a few of the whetstone break while trying to sharpenThe handle doesn't stay in place and find it folds over alot no matter how tight the screw isBut i have managed to sharpen a few of my knives successfullySo I would recommend along as you get the package with the diamond stones

Poor materials
Important note to start off with, I didn't receive the advertised brand. The kit I received was a brand by the name of RuiXin Pro. Visually very similar kit and like for like components. It came with 4 small sharpening stones, not great quality not poor quality. The base clamp works but the design is awkward and doesn't actually fit most tables or workbenches. Once you have a suitable workbench it will fit just fine but will loosen up will using the tool. The tool has several design flaws, the biggest issue is the nylon ball (pivot), it generates too much friction for the stone arm and causes the screw for the "angle memory" to loosen after just a few strokes. This means you're constantly retightening the screws. That brings us to issue number 2, the screws are made with inferior material, the thread will flake and get in the screw before you can get a tight grip on the arm. After replacing this component with a nut and bolt of my own, the next issue was simply the "angle memory", after a few strokes it just starts sliding down and moving left and right. This causes the angle to be completely wrong on the knife which could ruin it real quick if you failed to notice somehow.Next big issue is the mechanism that is supposed to secure the sharpening stone to the stone arm, there is a spring and a screw that is meant to be used to clamp the stone. I noticed the spring was much too weak to generate enough force to keep it secure, but figured the tightening screw must help to keep it in place. Unfortunately, due to the friction created by the nylon ball (see design flaw 1), the stone jerked loose and shattered on the floor after just a few strokes. I swapped stones and placed a pillow underneath to prevent further mishaps, the new stone fell out several times and you're constantly retightening the screws which eventually stops being effective (see design flaw 2).I was able to get an edge on a dull blade by making my own angle mechanism and secured that to the table, which allowed me to still use the clamp to secure the knife to the workbench. The mechanism that allows you to flip the blade without needing to unscrew it was handy and this is the only redeeming quality of this kit.The instructions for assembly are pointless, it does not explain how to set it up, simply which components are there. However, if you're familiar with similar systems you should be able to assemble this without the instructionless instructions. If you're only looking for a bench clamp that lets you flip the knife, maybe buy this set although you can get a better price somewhere else.If you're looking for a sharpening kit, stay clear.

Finally get that prestine finish on your blades!
Whether you're simply sick and tired of destroying your home-cooked meals with your old and blunt knives, or your profession requires your knives to be razor sharp, then this counter mounted, manual knife sharpener is a great way of sharpening your knives whilst having some fun at the same time!I have used the set up for kitchen knives, pocket knives and scissors, and althougg there was a learning cruve, I achieved extremely sharp, smooth edges and clean finishes across all the blades. However, it definitely isn't the easiest thing to get your head around at first, so I would recommend doing few trial runs on a knife/blade that you're not overly fussed about!Whilst I'm sure that culinary professionals would prefer to use good old fashioned whetstones/knife sharpening stones, if you want a significantly more novel way of getting the job done, or you simply don't get on with classic whetstones, this is such a unique option.

Stones broke on first use.
One of the stones was broken on the packet and another broke on first use.The ball joint bracket can rotate forward and back resulting in the angle of the stone changing during sharpening - you have to hold this in place else it ruins your edge. Would be better if the vertical had a flat edge to stop the rotation.Once you get used to it and understand the angles in play a reasonable edge can be achieved.

Very effective knife sharpener kit
Arrived promptly and had good instructions (I watched many YouTube tutorials for tips and techniques for this exact sharpener). After taking my time to sharpen my kitchen knives I got some great results which were the same if not better than a local professional ‘hand’ knife sharpening service which will cost the same as your own sharpener after a couple of sessions.Highly recommend going for the additional 5000 & 10,000 grit stones but these are more brittle so soak for 30 mins prior to use. Spend some time on improving the technique and do the paper cutting trick to visually see how much difference the sharpening makes.Highly recommend.
