Good splitter, worked well.
As a 5 foot tall, 94 pound, almost 60 year old woman, I have a really hard time splitting wood with an ax or maul. I just don’t have the height or upper body strength. I had a stack wood rounds (elm, piñon, cedar) that had been seasoning for about a year and a half and needed splitting. This thing worked great! I slammed the rounds down onto the splitter to hold them in place and then hit the wood with a sledgehammer. Don’t get me wrong. It was a lot of work, but it split the wood well. I used 4 inch wood screws and washers to fasten it to a large wooden block.

Very well made. Clone of an American design. Works great. Super tough.
Mount this to something solid (heavy round on concrete, for example), and you will be very pleased with its performance. Works better than I expected. Virtually indestructible construction unlike cast iron options which will likely crack at some point. I'm driving it a 4 lb hammer and find it just fine. I think those people that struggle to split dry wood with it probably don't have it mounted firmly to a solid base. If the ground is soft under your base then your impact energy will be lost from each strike. Really an exceptional value. I don't think I could have done any better for double the cost. I cut a deep slot in a split log to use as a safety cover on top of this when not in use. Takes about one minute to do plunging your saw and prevents a serious accident (think about kids playing near this...). Wish it was made in the Usa, but otherwise really good. Steel seems hard enough to last and comes very sharp.

Very easy to use.
It needs to be screwed down on some kind of platform for stability. I ended up screwing it on top of a round log. Once it was attached, it worked as advertised.

I hated it until I figured it out.
Like a lot of folks have posted here, it sucks right out of the box, and it won't work unless you fasten it to a big old splitting log. When I first got it, I had it sitting on the cement floor of my garage and it just bounced around. It sat in there for a year or so because it just wouldn't split wood. Then, I took another look at it and figured I would try to see if it was user error. Spoiler alert. It was. I screwed it to the top of a big log I had been using for splitting. I think that right there, was the biggest improvement. When I had it on the cement floor, it was just bouncing around and not biting the wood. Next, I took a Nichols file to it and sharpened the blade. Razor sharp. It seems to be holding an edge pretty well, but I touch it up before each use. I also make it a point to spray it with Rem Oil before each use. i am not sure whether it makes that big of a difference one way or the other. I think it might, so I will keep doing it. Even if it doesn't make a difference, it will keep it from rusting long term. I am now in love with this thing, and I go out to split kindling all the time to decompress from work. Cuts (most wood) like butter. Definitely needs to be straight grained wood and knot free wood.

I expected more
Works well on wood up to about 6" in diameter. Not so well on anything bigger

Metal is incredibly soft
I am seeing complaints about the splitter coming unsharpened, which would be an annoying chore to do yourself - IF THE METAL WAS HARD. I could sharpen this thing in five minutes because the metal is so g**damn soft. The jagged gaps you are seeing in the picture are from where I hit it with a pair of pliers with the same amount of force you'd use to shake water off of them- but get this - it didn't chip off, those are not chips you're seeing. What you are seeing is actually COMPRESSION OF THE METAL. This is utter garbage, and I'm getting my money back. Can't get my time back though. Are you effing kidding me with this? EDIT: Looking closer at the exposed metal. IT'S ALUMINUM. ALUMINUM. This company manufactured a forestry product that is intended to split all types of wood out of ALUMINUM. I just can't get over this. It's becoming emblematic of a society in decline, and I'm contemplating keeping it on my desk to remind me of the era we now find ourselves in.

Make cutting wood so much easier
Perfect for firewood. Bought it as a gift for my father as during the summer he loves to cut wood for the fireplace, and using this it has saved him so much time and makes it so much easier

Perfect for kindling
Have a stack of 2x4 cutoffs and this works out great for splitting them up for kindling.
