Review: A staple in my performance collection for church - Touch of Jazz Hymns is a book I always have in the bag for church services. The length fits well and these can be easily learned without logging too many prep hours. I like the altered dominants and jazz harmonies. If you have an ear for jazz and appreciate a fresh jazz-based take on favorite hymns - this book is a must-have. If you don't want to play jazz chords, skip it entirely and head for Martha Mier or Melody Bober territory. Review: Some really nice arrangements - Simple and easy arrangements with a touch of jazz

Nicely done! Tasteful and unique.
Nice chords and ideas in these arrangements. I use them at church frequently, and people compliment about them.

Hymns with a Touch of Jazz is a fun choice
I was really excited when I saw this particular book listed. I occasionally substitute for church service when our choir director/organist takes a Sunday off, so I needed a new book of offertory selections. These are at the intermediate level, some are pretty easy and some are more challenging with jazz tempos and incidentals mixed into the melody. Will definitely use in Church!

Modern arrangements, but not really "jazz"
On first read through I thought, "Hmmm, that's nice" The arrangements are definitely modern, but to me not really jazz. I guess everyone's definition of jazz in a little different. Sure, there are some dominant subs and other modern harmonies, but that doesn't make it jazz. Maybe I would like to have seen more consistent reharmonizations. Another thing, and maybe just me and my small hands, I have trouble reaching the 10ths. Also something that cold improve it would be to include the chord symbols which a lot of other books include. This would help one to improvise a little or to understand the harmonic progression a little better. Otherwise, OK arrangements for maybe an offertory or something else. Not too hard to play.

Very Useful Arrangements
The arrangements are sight-readable, effective, and tastefully done.. This book has been very useful for our alternative Saturday services. There have been many compliments on the piano selections.

Nothing like a Touch of Jazz
I've been using this book to play offertories at church and each time I've played one, the congregation applauds when I finish. They love them! (Note, I play a little by ear, so I probably add a little more than is written, but even if you play only by the written note, I recommend this book.) Not too difficult, but not for the beginner. One will definitely have to like jazz to enjoy to the fullest, because there are a lot of incidentals and very "jazzy" chords, but that's what makes it "A Touch of Jazz."
