what tone does this play?

personally I think it is pretty high pitched. Not the nice deep gong sound. We had to swap out the mallets, which helped, the wooden mallet it comes with makes a very high pitched sound. Better, but overall not a recommended purchase.

how many units of zen does this gong come with?

it is terrible........ no zen could not even make it gong

is the overall size 8x9x2?

If that is what the measurement says, it sounds about right - it seems very small / cheap to me....I have it on the back side of a shelf....

can I buy just the rammer? I already have a gong

Sorry we don't sell just the rammer.
